𝗧𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗺𝗮𝘆 𝗯𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗶𝗳: • ✅ You are actively working in the 𝗙𝗼𝗼𝗱, 𝗡𝗮𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗰𝗲𝘀 𝗼𝗿 𝗘𝗻𝘃𝗶𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗦𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿 𝗶𝗻 𝗕𝗖 𝗼𝗿 𝗖𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗱𝗮 (Private, Non-Profit, Government, Start-up, Industry Association) • 📊 You or your team have projects in 𝗘𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗼𝗺𝗶𝗰, 𝗙𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹, 𝗣𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗰𝘆 𝗔𝗻𝗮𝗹𝘆𝘀𝗶𝘀, 𝗗𝗮𝘁𝗮 𝗔𝗻𝗮𝗹𝘆𝘁𝗶𝗰𝘀, 𝗘𝗦𝗚 𝗔𝗻𝗮𝗹𝘆𝘀𝗶𝘀, 𝗼𝗿 𝗦𝘂𝗿𝘃𝗲𝘆 𝗗𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗔𝗻𝗮𝗹𝘆𝘀𝗶𝘀 • 🚀 You or your team have s𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗴𝗶𝗰 𝗽𝗿𝗶𝗼𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀 but don’t have enough resources to complete the work this summer Every summer, MFRE Students work with Industry Partners to complete 𝗚𝗿𝗮𝗱𝘂𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁𝘀 as a way to gain valuable work experience, earn credit for their degree, and contribute to current challenges and opportunities facing the industry. Food and Environmental sectors across the country face unprecedented times and uncertainty, including pressures from 𝘁𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗳𝗳𝘀, 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗱𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀, 𝗿𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝗻𝗽𝘂𝘁 𝗰𝗼𝘀𝘁𝘀, 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘀𝘂𝗺𝗲𝗿 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲𝘀, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗰𝘁𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗰𝗹𝗶𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲. MFRE Students learn about these topics in the classroom, and they are ready to apply them in the real world this summer.   • ✨Meet Joseph, a Mastercard Foundation Scholar and Master of Land and Water Systems student. ✨ Joseph embarked on an exciting journey from Ghana to Vancouver last summer... Adjusting to a new country came with surprises -- from ‘chilly’ summer weather to trying ramen for the first time! 🍜 His passion for environmental science has deepened through courses like Soil 501: Advanced Soil Processes and Soil 503: Advanced Soil Sampling, Analyses and Data Interpretation. He is realizing that soil studies can be applied to various remediation techniques, such as mining reclamation.   • ✨Meet Kanaan, a Mastercard Foundation Scholar and Master of Food Science student who is passionate about developing sustainable food and packaging solutions.✨ His research journey began at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science & Technology in Ghana, where he explored indigenous crops like egusi melon seeds to combat malnutrition. 🌾🍉 At UBC, he’s expanding his knowledge in food science and sustainability, drawn to innovative projects like upcycling blueberry waste into biodegradable packaging. He’s especially interested in alternative protein sources and hopes to develop new products using inputs that are indigenous to Ghana.
