For Giving Tuesday Starts now, we invite you to support Umoja Robotics, a program where young Black innovators are shaping tomorrow’s economy through robotics and STEM education. Canada is facing a critical shortage of skilled workers in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) fields, and Black communities remain disproportionately underrepresented in these spaces. Your generosity can help bridge this gap, opening doors to a future filled with opportunity and innovation. Why Your Support Matters? Umoja Robotics is a beacon of Black excellence, nurturing skills that go beyond building award-winning robots. Our students master: * Engineering and Computer-Aided Design (CAD) * Electrical and Coding – Computer Science * Critical Thinking and Problem Solving * Collaboration, Innovation, and Presentation Skills * Business Writing and Leadership These skills not only make university applications stand out but also prepare students to lead in today’s competitive economy. With your support, we can: * Provide essential tools and parts for designing and building our next robot * Cover registration fees to compete at regional, provincial, and world championships * Offer post-secondary STEM education scholarships to participants Make A Difference Today Every dollar counts. Donations of $20.00 or more will receive a tax receipt for 2024. Together, we can fuel the dreams of these future innovators and transform their potential into groundbreaking achievements. Glad to be part of the SickKidsWomenPowered event. It was great to connect with such inspiring people. Many thanks to Jennifer Bernard and the SickKids Foundation team.
President & CEO,SicKids Foundation,/WXN 100 Most Powerful/ CFRE/ Award winning keynote speaker/Board member/Mom/Traveler
Launching SickKidsWomenPowered was truly one of the proudest moments of my career. There were so many highlights including my good friend Jully Black sharing her personal SickKids story and wisdom from a life full of both struggle and triumph. She had us singing, hugging and crying. She is truly a Canadian treasure and icon. Julie Middleton, an amazing, resilient SickKids mom kicked things off. Through her tears, she shared how she was inspired by her daughter who is battling leukaemia to start her company that benefits kids across Canada. A big thank you to everyone that joined us. I hope you were as inspired as I was hearing from our passionate panelists and knowing we have the power to work together to support The Hospital for Sick Children and the children we care for. We have the ability to fulfill Elizabeth McMaster’s dream to “treat the children of tomorrow better than we treat the children of today.” We have the power to heal the future. That’s why our members will support The Hospital for Sick Children AND other charities that support our patients. Special shout out to our amazing host Angie Seth, Dr. Meredith Irwin, who is the first female Chief of Paediatrics at SickKids, Paediatric Respirologist Indra Narang Executive lead of EDI and health equity, Dr. Noma Dlamini, Director of the Children’s Stroke Program and, Judy Van Cleaf, VP, Clinical Operations and Chief Nursing Officer. We are in good hands. All of us at SickKids Foundation know that the efforts of women inside and outside our hospital are vital for keeping families and communities strong, connected and resilient. There is so much to do. I hope you will join us! For more information: https://bit.ly/4hZrDW7

Love this message…encouraging young people to consider a path in STEAM.
Talking about #STEMEducation | Robotics Competitions | and Preparing the Youth of Today to Face the Challenges of Tomorrow
Now more than ever, it is critical to encourage young people to discover the breadth of career pathways that STEM education has to offer. Not only can STEM education be applied across a wide variety of professions and industries, but it also helps build the skills young people need to become productive global citizens, including teamwork, communication, resiliency, empathy for others, and a lifelong love of learning. At FIRST, and with the support of our great partners, we are preparing young people for STEM careers and encouraging them to see that the skills they're building today will help them #GetAnywhere. #NationalSTEMDay

Very excited to hear SickKids Foundation Kids’ latest Women Powered initiative that supports and celebrates women whose charities focus on the health and well being of our children in our community.
President & CEO,SicKids Foundation,/WXN 100 Most Powerful/ CFRE/ Award winning keynote speaker/Board member/Mom/Traveler
Against all odds, in 1875 a 27-year-old mother of three with passion and vision to help children who were sick and dying, established The Hospital for Sick Children. That’s the power of a woman unleashed! SickKidsWomenPowered is a new community created at SickKids Foundation to protect the health of our children as Elizabeth McMaster did all those years ago. As a SickKids mom myself, I know that a community of women- an inclusive, unstoppable, half-the-universe group can and will create real change by working together focused on transforming the future of children’s health in Canada. And what does this mean? It means we show up for each other. It means we support and celebrate each other. It means we care for more than ourselves. SickKidsWomenPowered members will pool their collective resources to support SickKids AND other children’s charities brought forward by our passionate members. Why? because we know it takes a village to heal a child and we know we must keep our partners in the community strong so we don’t just treat children but help prevent illness and ensure children thrive after they leave our hospital. Elizabeth McMaster was our first trailblazer, and I’m excited to join forces with so many of you to ensure we achieve better health outcomes for more kids and fight for every precious child. Together we will be connected by our mission ”Healthier Children. A Better World. “ Join me on Thursday, November 19th for the launch of SickKidsWomenPowered! Time: 6:00 PM – 9:00 PM Location: SickKids Patient Support Centre Address: 175 Elizabeth St, Toronto, ON M5G 2G3 This evening of engaging programming will feature some of the top female leaders at SickKids and a closing celebratory reception full of surprises! Space is limited so RSVP NOW to get your free ticket! I’ll see you there! https://lnkd.in/g2phjcbe

Full circle Solomon Boakye-Yiadom, PhD, P.Eng. as you are a great mentor to our Umoja students as well. #mentorship
Associate Professor @ Lassonde School of Engineering | Advanced Manufacturing and Materials Research
Gratitude Post: Mentorship and Lifelong Learning I’m incredibly honored to be attending the DYMAT 2024 conference at ETH Zurich, where I had the opportunity to reconnect with my PhD advisor, Prof. Nabil Bassim (Emiretus), whose mentorship and guidance have profoundly shaped my journey. Everything I do today, from my research in advanced materials and additive manufacturing to the development of new technologies and the training of the next generation of engineers and scientists, stems from the foundation he helped build. His influence has been instrumental in my growth, not only as a researcher but also as a human being. As I mentor the next generation of scientists, I carry forward the lessons of dedication, curiosity, and mentorship that I learned from him. The importance of passing knowledge to others and creating a collaborative environment for discovery is something I will always cherish and continue to practice. The connections we make along our journey define us, and I’m eternally grateful for this one. #DYMAT2024 #Mentorship #LifelongLearning #Gratitude #AdvancedMaterials #AdditiveManufacturing #STEM
