Over the past weeks, #COP16Colombia in Cali saw the largest, whole-of-society mobilization for biodiversity. With global attention on biodiversity action, countries reached historic agreements. The progress made at COP16 also highlighted the power of multilateralism, making important strides toward the 2030 targets of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (#KMGBF). With 2030 fast approaching, our commitment to action is more critical than ever. In Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), traditional knowledge bridges between biodiversity, cultural heritage, and the sustainable use of resources. Passed down through generations, this knowledge reflects the deep connection between local communities and their natural environment. Grateful to Japan and H.E. Keiichiro Asao, Minister of the Environment of Japan, whom I had the honour of meeting at #COP29, for the support to UN Biodiversity, including a ¥650M contribution to the Global Biodiversity Framework Fund #GBFF, backing through the Japan Biodiversity Fund, and the mobilisation of a Junior Professional Officer.

At #COP29, Mr. Juan Carlos Monterrey-Gomez, Special Representative for Climate, shared valuable insights on Panama's Nature Pledge: a concrete example of synergy in the national implementation of the Rio Conventions, complete with action on plastic pollution. Thank you, Panama.

Biodiversity is the foundation of agriculture, food security and nutrition. At #COP29 in Baku, Juan Lucas Restrepo Ibiza (Alliance of Bioversity International and CIAT and CGIAR) and I explored the further development of our common work on biodiversity for food and agriculture.
