I spoke with a jobseeker who was sure he had been doing everything right. It took us 5 hours in total to draft a proper self-introduction, minimize the amount of talking and aggressive selling, focus on listening and understanding the questions. Our mock interviews were fun, because I had to stop him every time I thought he was going in the wrong direction. We replaced cliché and generalized statements in his resume with technical details of his previous hands-on experience and achievements. He was able to see his strengths in a different light. He understood why certain companies hadn’t gotten back to him. Eventually, he was able to find a job and I am glad he was humble enough to adjust his approach and stay open-minded. Today’s job market is tough, it is an employer-driven one with very limited opportunities, and as a result, fierce competition between jobseekers. I helped professionals embrace and understand the uniqueness of their experience and education in the context of Canadian supply chain job market, tailor their resumes, improve LinkedIn profiles, increase visibility and focus on the specific area of business or industry that would appreciate them as they are and pay accordingly.
