We. Made. It. One of the values that we strive to uphold at the UTM Career Centre on a day-to-day basis is to "Be Career Educators." We strive to engage with, reflect on, and articulate the Career Development process for students and alumni. However, we also know we don't have enough Career Development professionals on campus to connect with all 16,000+ University of Toronto Mississauga students, let alone the 90,000+ students at the University of Toronto. So, we decided to create a convenient way for us to reach them while they are on the go! Introducing you to 5 on the Go, where your career journey never stops, and neither do we. 5 on the Go is the ultimate career development podcast created for students learning to uncover their career paths. In each episode, we bring you an insightful conversation with the University of Toronto alums who’ve journeyed from the classroom to the corporate and entrepreneurial workforce. Whether you’re navigating the job market, considering a career switch, or seeking inspiration, we’ve got you covered. Join us as we unravel the secrets of success, share invaluable advice, and explore the diverse paths our alumni have taken in their professional lives. Subscription links are in the comments box, and you can find 5 on the Go on Spotify, Apple Podcasts and YouTube. Welcome to 5 on the Go, where your career journey never stops, and neither do we. #CareerDevelopment #HigherEd #Podcast #UofT #Learning

At the UTM Career Centre within the University of Toronto Mississauga, one area of student success from the career development and EDI lens is equipping current students and alumni with the skills and knowledge to navigate the modern workplace. By collaborating with employers to address critical workforce needs, we play a crucial social responsibility in bridging our employer partners and students to create a more just and inclusive society - especially for students who face employment barriers. Our team and our employer partners play a pivotal role in shaping the future workforce, and in today's world, that means fostering a deep understanding of diversity, equity, and inclusion. Annually, in November, we handpick and celebrate about a dozen employer partners who strive to build equitable and diverse workforces. Their inclusive hiring practices have led them to create phenomenal workplaces for new graduates. This year, we were so happy that our student body was able to connect with Melissa and Réjean from AXON, Christina and Tusma from the City of Mississauga, Irma and Karen S. from Coca-Cola Canada Bottling Limited, Bobby and Keesha from Enterprise Mobility, Crystal from LinkedIn, Jasmine and Tamara from MLSE (Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment Partnership), Adam and Amanda from Scotiabank, Adnan and Shumyla from Sentrex Health, Valerie and Leigh from Staples Canada, Omar and Rachel from Trillium Health Partners, Monica S., Valerie and Carol from the University of Toronto Mississauga along with University of Toronto alum, Victoria. A special shout out to our key sponsor, Sysco Canada Inc., for having Nadine and Aleksandra present at this event. Thanks to each one of you for attending this event on behalf of your organization and, more importantly, for sharing your stories, your experiences, and the opportunities that your organizations present to future talent here on our campus. We appreciate all of you! #diversityandinclusion #highereducation #futureofwork #DE&I #talentpipeline

The UTM Career Centre hosted another successful annual Career Center Networking Series for Geography and Environmental Science students on November 5th! 🌍🌱 We had a fantastic turnout with 60+ students from various programs, including Environmental Science, Geography, and Biology. 🧑🎓 Our event this year had a stacked set of University of Toronto Mississauga Alum panellists, and we want to thank Alexus Maglalang from Toronto and Region Conservation Authority (TRCA), Bryn Fraser, Daniel Serrano from Hatch, Michele Colley from Metrolinx and Samantha Marjanovic from Branthaven. The Alumni shared valuable insights on their career journeys and emphasized the importance of continuous learning and mentorship. 🤝 Big thanks to our alumni for their valuable contributions and to all the students who attended! Thank you, Jesse, Shanzey, Maria, April, Chrystal, Cyriac, Ashvini, Michael and Sheila for spearheading this opportunity. 👏 Are you ready to connect with professionals in your field? Calling All #Employers. Our next Get Hired Fair takes place on Wednesday, Jan 15th, 2025. At our last fair, we polled our employers about the number of students they met from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. On average, each booth saw 216 students or the equivalent of $1.85 per student to build your employer brand when you purchase a standard Bronze package. Want to add further "oomph" to building your employer's reputation on campus? Invest in our Platinum or Gold packages to create additional awareness among our student body before your arrival. We start promotions in the next two weeks, but please feel free to let us know if your organization is interested in attending our fair by clicking on the link in the comments section. #JobFair #Internships #CoOp #GraduateJobs #HigherEducation

You Belong Here. Imagine a stranger sharing with you this simple statement. The warmth that radiates from those three words can change another person's life. This is why our third annual Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Breakfast means so much to us at the UTM Career Centre. We are excited to welcome 80 University of Toronto Mississauga students to engage with a number of our invited employer partners, who have also embarked on an important journey to help their own employees understand why they belong within their organization. These organizations are leading the way in creating inclusive values and a solid corporate culture by building diverse workforces. We are so thankful to Nadine Patel, a proud University of Toronto alum from Sysco Canada Inc., for taking on the duties of delivering the keynote message along with Aleksandra Whistle while being our exclusive partner to sponsor this event. Thank you, Sysco Canada Inc., Nadine and Aleksandra. We are also looking forward to welcoming the City of Mississauga, Enterprise Mobility, LinkedIn, MLSE (Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment Partnership), Sentrex Health, Staples Canada, and Trillium Health Partners to our campus. Is your organization interested in joining? We only have a handful of spots left - further information can be found here (click on the apply button to be considered) -> https://lnkd.in/ddizgXNB

We are often asked, "What's it like to be off for four months in the summer?" Well, we, as staff members at the UTM Career Centre, don't get that time off. We are already in the swing of things, planning for the new academic year ahead, which runs from September to April. We start planning for the new academic year over six weeks, from the beginning of April to the middle of May. At this time, staff members converge for a period of unit-based self-reflections, which allows individuals from each unit to celebrate the group's efforts in collectively achieving our team goals. We also reflect on what we have learned from the opportunities we have had over the past year. Over the following two weeks, we then met as an entire group to hear about how all the units achieved the strategic directions that were laid out by the leadership team. We hear of the stories of how team members were driven to enact upon our mission (https://lnkd.in/ehcT6Rxk) while striving to demonstrate our values of:- 🎯 Be Career Educators 🎯 Responsive for Service Excellence 🎯 Proactive and Innovative 🎯 Work in Partnership 🎯 Promote Professionalism 🎯 Accountable 🎯 Belonging Through Inclusion Finally, in mid-May, each unit shares how they will achieve our new strategic directions, defines goals for achieving those prescribed directions, and takes on new challenges for professional development. We follow all of this up towards the third week of August to help us all align on the direction we are taking. All in all, as we head into this Canadian Thanksgiving long weekend, we want to bask in the wonderful start to this particular Academic Year 2024/25. We thank all of our University of Toronto Mississauga students, staff, and Faculty for partnering with us on the various events, programs, and workshops that we have collaborated on. Most importantly, we want to thank every member of our UTM Career Centre staff, past and present, for curating an incredible calendar of opportunities for our University of Toronto students while inspiring students to explore and build a career that aligns with their full potential. #UTMCareerCentre #UofT #Thanksgiving #Gratitude #CareerDevelopment
