Last Friday, UTMCap had the pleasure of joining forces with Innovative Business Association (IBA) , Finance Careers Club (FCC), UTM Fintech Association, and ACE UTM to host a joint opening ceremony. This collaboration marks the start of a journey filled with innovation, networking, and growth. It was truly inspiring to see so many passionate individuals come together to share ideas and collaborate. A huge thank you to everyone who attended and contributed to the success of this event. Last week we had the chance to present our stock pitch at UTM Capital's closing ceremony, granting us a 2nd place finish with our pitch of Canadian Apartment Properties REIT (CAPREIT)! Over the past eight months, I had the pleasure of being the Investment Leader for the Financials, Insurance, and Real Estate (FIRE) coverage team; leading a large team of people towards our final pitch. We presented a very convincing presentation highlighting how CAPREIT was trading at a significant discount to its Net Asset Value, which led us to believe that the market was overly pessimistic. The company had very strong financial performance, and low exposure to high rates, with numerous catalysts that could bring our investment thesis to life. The 2nd place finish means that CAPREIT will officially be added to UTMCap's portfolio, where we will be able to see our thesis play out! The road was filled with many challenges, from narrowing down our research in September to building our financial model over the past weeks. However, this experience has helped me grow tremendously as I truly developed as a leader and as a person. But this achievement would not have been possible without the dedication and hard work of our team. I would like to extend a special thanks to my amazing senior analysts Jaspal Bath, Sami Shahzad, and Sharifamo Odinamamadova who made leading this team much easier by taking on work and showing great initiative. I would also like to thank the amazing analysts who showed their passion and commitment to our success Maaz Atique, Xi Chen, Michael Conzelman, and everyone else who worked to make this all possible. I finally wish to extend my thanks to Nilesh Goburdhun, Arsalan Arshad, and Carrie Dang for trusting me with this role, and for making this a year to remember! I look forward to seeing what the future holds!

Last Thursday, the Consumer & Retail team showcased Aritzia. This was after seven months of exhaustive research, conducting an in-depth company analysis, learning about the apparel industry trends, developing a well-rounded thesis, and finishing with our intrinsic valuation of Aritzia. Given that I had never been in a university club before, let alone led a team, being the investment leader for the Consumer & Retail team was definitely a challenge for me. From managing tight deadlines to scheduling meetings that fit everyone's schedules to dealing with conflicts, I learned that this role was not easy, but I was up for the challenge. Thankfully, I also had an amazing team of analysts willing to learn and contribute weekly throughout this lengthy project. Thank you to the fantastic executive team at UTM Capital and the analysts who have worked tirelessly to make our pitch a great success.

What a journey.... Last Thursday I had the pleasure of competing in UTM Capital's end of year stock pitch where I and the Financials, Insurance, & Real Estate (FIRE) team came to deliver a compelling argument on why CAPREIT is a BUY. This was an enjoyable project that started all the way in September and throughout each phase of researching, preparing our thesis and building our intuitive model, I witnessed our teamwork and dedication culminate in a persuasive and well-received pitch that received 2nd place! I would like to thank my good friend Abdullah Al-Murab who constantly proved to be a great leader as well as our team of analysts; Maaz Atique, Sami Shahzad, Sharifamo Odinamamadova, Xi Chen, Michael Conzelman and the rest of the FIRE team for giving 110% of their efforts throughout this project. Special thanks go to Nilesh Goburdhun, Arsalan Arshad, Carrie Dang, and the entire UTM Capital team for organizing such a memorable occasion. Their captivating stock pitch on Axcelis captivated the audience and impressed the judges with its thorough research. Join us in congratulating the team on their well-deserved victory! 👏 The presentations and research quality from all teams this year were exceptional, revealing numerous promising investment opportunities. The judges faced a challenging task in selecting the top three teams, leading to a tie for second place between the M&M team and the FIRE team. It was a pleasure to have attended UTM Capital’s Closing Ceremony! Knowing how much research goes into the final stock pitch of the club, it was amazing to have been on the other side to watch all of the student’s hard work. There was a multitude of industry and company insights to be learned, and most certainly some good investment opportunities! Thanks to the team at UTM Capital for organizing this flagship event!

It was a pleasure to have honoured guests Joel Hurren, CFA and Alexandros Simotas from Langdon Equity Partners, to conclude our final Speaker Series event for this year. Students had the opportunity to learn about careers in the buy-side and insights into small cap investing.
