About us

The UVic Formula Racing (formally UVic Formula Motorsport) team is a university club whose goal is to design and build a new small, open-wheeled, formula-style car each year. The car then competes in Formula SAE, which is the world's largest collegiate design competition. Our members are highly dedicated and motivated students who seek to get the most out of their university experience. Throughout the year, the team puts thousands of hours into the development of the prototype vehicle, and the members expand their knowledge far beyond what is achieved during a Bachelor's degree alone. Team members gain valuable experience with practical applications of engineering theory, business and relations, hands-on design, and manufacturing.

    Formula SAE Michigan 2024 completed. A huge thank you to Robert Leduc, Luke Wooldridge, and Stephanie Willerth for their guidance, support, and leadership throughout this competition year. The team scored higher than or equal to it's best performance since COVID in all events except acceleration and endurance and were on track for our highest finish ever. An issue with the car unfortunately forced us to retire the car on lap 8 of 10 of the endurance event. Despite that the team brought home our first trophy ever coming 3rd in the cost event where we cost the car as if it were to enter production and first in our design bay where students talk to industry professionals about the ins and outs of the car, with Zach Smith and I bringing home the highest score for the suspension system post COVID. It was a pleasure to be part of such a dedicated team and I am very excited to continue improving the car and my own understanding over the next competition year.

    Continuing our showcase of the TCT Awards Finalists for 2024, our third Automotive & Rail Application Award Finalist is  Liquid Catch Can for Formula SAE by CRP USA in partnership with University of Victoria Formula Racing 3D printing liquid catch cans have been developed for UVic Formula Racing, enabling the consolidation of multiple pieces into a single part. These vital components were laser sintered in Windform SP, which and contributed to superior performance and durability in the demanding environment of Formula SAE racing.
