Today, on #NationalHousingDay, we're reflecting on an incredible event hosted by Habitat for Humanity Canada, Habitat for Humanity GTA, and the City of Toronto. Leaders, including Mwarigha M.S - Housing and Real Estate Assets Executive, WoodGreen's VP of Housing Growth, Development & Asset Sustainability, gathered to discuss innovative housing solutions.
Today is #NationalHousingDay! Earlier this week, Habitat for Humanity Canada partnered with Habitat for Humanity GTA and the City of Toronto to bring together a diverse group of leaders in one of the country’s most challenging housing markets. We flipped the usual script on the housing conversation by handing the mic to Toronto Mayor Olivia Chow, who led lively interviews with people creating real impact through innovative housing solutions. A packed room of housing leaders left with many key takeaways: 🏘️ Every neighbourhood needs to shoulder some of the responsibility to house people 🏘️ Smart density means making the land work a little bit harder 🏘️ Through collaboration, we can build thriving, mixed-use, mixed-income communities 🏘️ All housing providers – nonprofit and for-profit – are ready and eager to partner 🏘️ Ending homelessness relies on integrating housing and health 🏘️ Government interdependency makes housing work And from Mayor Chow, a commitment to provide land, fast approvals, collaboration, and tax and charge discounts for nonprofits. When it comes to the need for affordable housing, there is no “us” and “them". Watch all of Mayor Chow's conversations here: https://lnkd.in/gX2jfT23 Thank you to all our speakers for their inspiring insights: Michael Cooper, Dream, Andrea Adams, St Clare's Multifaith Housing Society, Naama Blonder, Smart Density, Andrew Joyner, Tricon Residential, Jason Lye, March of Dimes Canada, Andrew Boozary MD MPP, University Health Network and Keith Hambly, Fred Victor And a big thank you to our generous sponsors: Dream, EllisDon, Greenwin Corp., George Brown College, OPTIONS FOR HOMES, Vancity Community Investment Bank, WoodGreen Community Services, City of Toronto, and Habitat for Humanity GTA.
