The Winnipeg Foundation invested $4.2 million in our community through the 2024 Major Capital Grants program! We awarded 14 grants of $150,000 to $500,000, supporting childcare, food and housing security, healthcare, the arts, and inclusive spaces. Amid rising costs, these grants help revitalize spaces, expand services, and strengthen essential programs. The Winnipeg Foundation’s investment in childcare helps to ensure families have access to safe, high-quality early learning opportunities. S.P.L.A.S.H. Child Care Inc. plays a crucial role in supporting families, particularly those facing financial and social challenges. A $200,000 grant will help renovate its new space on Balmoral Avenue, expanding its capacity to serve 96 children in a nurturing and accessible setting. Did you know? Despite the introduction of $10-a-day daycare in Manitoba, 82% of S.P.L.A.S.H. families rely on additional fee subsidies. Accessible childcare remains a critical need, ensuring all children—regardless of financial barriers—receive the early learning support they deserve. The Foundation's Community Fund allows us to make grants, like this Major Capital Grant, that support the needs and opportunities in our community identified by charities. Your Community Foundation. For Good. Forever.
About us
The Winnipeg Foundation is a community foundation committed to connecting donors to causes they care about and meeting the needs of the community. The Winnipeg Foundation is the first community foundation in Canada, established in 1921. We work with donors and community groups to improve the city we all call home. We are For Good. Forever. This means we help you give back to your community by connecting you with organizations and causes important to you For Good. And since we’re an endowment-based organization, your gift continues to give Forever. Community foundations are public institutions built through generous gifts of all sizes that are pooled and permanently endowed. The interest earned from these endowments generates a sustainable source of support for local charitable projects Forever. In keeping with donors' wishes, our grants support a wide range of projects in neighbourhoods throughout our city - providing healthy food for kids, making our city greener, improving access to education, supporting creativity, helping the most challenged members of our community, and so much more. The Foundation offers flexible options for donors to help them meet their personal needs and philanthropic goals. The Foundation maintains the purchasing power of the funds entrusted to us, achieving maximum returns consistent with prudent investment and assuring sound financial management practices. Our vision is a Winnipeg where community life flourishes for all. For Good. Forever.

Last week, Foundation staff were thrilled to attend United Way's annual celebration and the Winnipeg Jets Gala. At Celebration 2024, the United Way Winnipeg reflected on everything they accomplished throughout 2024, how much they raised and the good work they are doing in our community. The annual Winnipeg Jets Gala supports the True North Youth Foundation and specifically its Project 11 initiative which focuses on youth well-being. The program, created by True North Youth Foundation in honour of #11 Rick Rypien, educates youth on positive coping skills and building a greater sense of self-awareness. #WeAreAllWpg #WinnipegJets #TrueNorthYouthFoundation #Winnipeg
