Last week at The Buildings Show, WZMH Principals, Nicola Casciato and Harrison Chan, led a session on Innovation in Net-Zero Design. Highlighting Toronto Police Service Division 41, their presentation explored innovative approaches taken to achieve CAGBC | Canada Green Building Council’s Zero Carbon Building Standards. From integrating geothermal energy and solar PV systems to designing a high-performance building envelope, the session showcased how thoughtful design can balance sustainability, budget, and community-focused spaces. #wzmh #wzmharchitects #sustainabledesign #CaGBC #netzero #torontopoliceservices #thebuildingsshow
About us
We are an award-winning architectural partnership based in Toronto. Creating distinctive buildings of lasting value for more than 60 years. The Webb Zerafa Menkes Housden Partnership was established in 1961 by four associates of the iconic Canadian architect, Peter Dickinson. After Peter’s untimely passing, and with commissions to complete for Izzy Sharp of Four Seasons Hotel and Kenneth Rotenberg of Y&R Properties, our new firm was founded and went on to design its first modernist landmark projects in Toronto. Through the 1960s and '70s, we designed such iconic buildings as the CN Tower, the Royal Bank Plaza, and multiple signature office buildings in downtown Toronto and Calgary. Through the 1980s and '90s, WZMH’s work followed its clients, expanding into the USA, the Middle East, and China. After 60+ years and renamed as WZMH Architects, the firm has evolved from its modest roots to a global force in architectural design, with a showcase of buildings in every large Canadian city and many throughout the world. Built on innovative design, technical expertise and dynamic leadership, the firm’s experience includes significant Institutional, Residential, Corporate, Hospitality and Recreational projects in Canada, the United States, Europe, Asia, and the Middle East. Since its inception, WZMH has evolved into a practice of over 150 professionals combining individual creativity and experience with the efficiency and reliability of a major architectural firm. WZMH strives to achieve excellence in Architecture through a respect for cooperative client relations and a commitment to value and sustainable construction practices. Architecture holds the power to evoke profound emotions, shaping our interactions with spaces. Our entry for the Museum of Emotions competition delves into this interplay, creating dual spaces that contrast starkly—one designed to reflect and provoke negative emotions, the other to uplift and inspire. A striking vertical tower anchors the design, guiding visitors on a symbolic journey from introspection to inspiration. Enclosed spaces provoke reflection, while the elevated circular platform offers expansive views, fostering awe and serenity. This narrative-driven approach attempts to bridge the gap between architecture and emotional storytelling, expressing how built environments can resonate with human sentiment. #designcompetition #concept #museum #wzmh #wzmharchitects

What an energized and inspiring day at the BEAT Leadership Seminar hosted at T3 Bayside! The morning kicked off with presentations by Dima Cook, Kendra Kusick, Olivia Keung, Sophie Tremblay, Jennifer Davis, OAA, NSAA, MRAIC who have each developed a different area of technical expertise within architecture. During the panel discussion, moderated by Jennifer Davis, a common thread emerged: each woman observed a skills gap or need within their firm and put up their hand to fill it. In-house expertise increases an office’s capabilities and builds individuals’ careers in a symbiotic way. WZMH’s afternoon workshop, “Self Promote with Storytelling,” was facilitated by storytelling expert Priya Sam. Attendees heard about Roopneet Singh’s career path as an internationally trained architect and how authentic networking has been pivotal to her career. Participants reflected on their unique stories and then practiced networking with each other to get comfortable with this important skill. It was a privilege to be part of this dynamic event! Thanks to Hines for hosting the event at T3 Bayside and congratulations to the BEAT team who produced this dynamic event: Elsa Lam, Vice Chair of BEAT Advisory Committee Sonia R., BEAT Advisory Committee Member & Seminar welcome remarks Mahsa Majidian and Kiana Mozayyan, BEAT Executive Committee members who spearheaded the organization of the Seminar. #wzmh #wzmharchitects #BEAT #seminar #T3Bayside

Excited to share that WZMH Architects is featured in the November issue of Canadian Architect magazine! We're proud to be part of two standout projects in sustainable office design—T3 Sterling Road and T3 Bayside. These mass timber buildings combine biophilic design with cutting-edge engineering to offer “all of the charm of an old brick and timber building, with none of the downsides.” T3 Sterling, designed by DLR Group with WZMH as the local affiliate architect, features exposed glulam columns and beams and dowel-laminated timber (DLT) floor structure. T3 Bayside, designed by 3XN/GXN, uses Cross-Laminated Timber (CLT) floors in combination with glulam columns / beams. In the role of Executive Architect, the WZMH team contributed significantly to the precise coordination of the exposed services that are “lovely to look at.” Read the full article in Canadian Architect - https://lnkd.in/gVKVX3-u #Hines #T3 #masstimber #T3Bayside #T3Sterling #susainabledesign #3XN #DLR #wzmh #wzmharchitects Len Abelman Nicola Casciato Ted DuArte Robert Sampson Paul Brown Nazanin Salimi Derek Smart Ashley McKay Samer Richani Akhilesh Ahuja OAA, LEED AP

Catch a glimpse of construction progress at One Delisle, viewed from a drone. We’re currently at 6th floor structure. The site is in the process of installing the ACS climbing system. This system is comprised of wall formwork and platforms that are moved from floor to floor by means of integrated hydraulic systems allowing for a more efficient and cost-effective way of constructing the building’s core. The 44 storey tower located at the southwest corner of Yonge and Delisle Avenue features a façade comprised of a series of eight-story, hooded modules, which nest together as they spiral up the building. At the base, the tower fits into the city grid through a rectilinear shape that gradually tapers into a cylindrical form to maximize sunlight, panoramic views and minimize street shadows. A two storey setback podium allows for widened, landscaped sidewalks and small-scale retail that complements the local streetscape, creating a vibrant pedestrian experience and connects with the future redeveloped Delisle Park. We’re excited to be working closely with Slate Asset Management , Globizen and Studio Gang on this innovative 44-storey residential tower that is the first step towards a more comprehensive vision for the neighbourhood.
