Building Bridges to Belonging

About us

We are building the next generation of Canadians. Each year our charity empowers thousands of immigrant, refugee and newcomer youth and families to fulfill their potential in Canadian society. Since 1990, we've helped thousands overcome emotional, cultural and socio-economic barriers that prevent them from becoming contributing members of Calgary and Canada. Through in-school and after-school programs, workshops, field trips and hands-on learning activities, we support kids who have a tough time integrating into their school and community. Youth who are new to Canada and can experience loneliness, exclusion, racism, bullying, a confused self-identity, low self-esteem, etc. We educate them about various topics: Canadian culture, adaptability, anti-bullying, self-empowerment, healthy friendships and community engagement. We also offer academic support so they can enter the workforce with skill and smarts. In addition to youth, Calgary’s economy continues to be shaped by immigrant adults and families who are eager to give back to our society. Sadly, initial settlement challenges prevent them from finding work, supporting their children and realizing their potential. We provide one-on-one guidance and resources about settlement; most importantly – we familiarize them with Canadian culture so they can find a sense of belonging. • It’s Black Friday and that means there’s only 4 more days until Giving Tuesday, the biggest fundraising day of the year! As you reflect on the causes closest to your heart, we invite you to consider supporting the Calgary Bridge Foundation for Youth. We support immigrant and refugee kids, and ensure that they have access to a settlement support worker at their school who can guide them as they make Canada home. We also run programs for kids and youth from ages 5 to 30, including afterschool, mentorship, post-secondary preparedness, and employment readiness programs. We support thousands of youth and families every year and ensure they feel welcome in Canada and can thrive here. Your support can change lives. Donate today and help us give every child the chance to succeed and build Bridges to Belonging in their new home. • Giving Tuesday is just 10 days away! We are the only organization in Calgary focused exclusively on immigrant and refugee children and youth. In today’s climate, where rhetoric around immigration can often be divisive, it’s more crucial than ever to invest in the future of these young people. By supporting us, you help create a safe space where kids can grow, connect, and take part in activities that help them assimilate and learn about Canadian culture, while also staying connected to their own heritage. Your donation helps us build strong relationships and provides the resources and opportunities newcomer kids need to thrive in their new community. Together, we can create a brighter, more inclusive future. www.cbfy.ca/support-us #givingtuesday #supportimmigrantyouth #youthempowerment #strongercommunities #giveback

  • Thank you to Abe Brown, and the team at Certified Flourishing Coaching for their incredible guidance and training for many of our staff through the Certified Flourishing Leadership Coach program. The insights and tools shared inspired all of us. It was a privilege to learn from Abe and to grow as a team during our 5 weeks together. We can't wait to use what we've learned to serve the newcomer youth and communities of Calgary! Thank you, Abe and team, for your passion and commitment to leadership excellence!

  • Our second Bridge Talks session (inspired by the renowned TED Talks) took place last week and featured Jamuna Pandey-Badal, one of our incredible SWIS Settlement Workers in Schools. Jamuna's background as a former clinical psychologist has led her to wear many hats over the years, from teacher and coach to manager and program developer. Her wealth of experience shines through in her passion for helping newcomer children, youth, and their families thrive. As an immigrant from Nepal, her journey resonates with many of our clients. For nearly two decades, she and her family have called Calgary home. She is proud of her bicultural identity and remains deeply connected to Nepal, a country she holds close to her heart. During her talk, she transported us to her homeland, sharing stories about its rich traditions, breathtaking landscapes, and vibrant culture. What a successful and insightful second Bridge Talks session! We're already looking forward to learning more from our incredibly talented team in future sessions!

  • At the Youth Achievement Awards Gala two weeks ago, we had the privilege of sharing the stories of several of our award winners. Their journeys to Canada are filled with resilience, hope, and perseverance, showing what it takes to chase your dreams in a brand new country. Each of them spoke about how CBFY has been a part of their journey and how our staff have helped them every step of the way. Their words touched our hearts at the gala, and now we want to share their stories with you. Let their experiences remind us all of the power of community, the strength in diversity, and the importance of supporting one another. 16 youth received scholarships, but last year alone, we supported nearly 10,000 newcomer children and youth. If these stories inspire you, please consider donating to help us support even more young people as they make Canada their new home. Visit www.cbfy.ca/donate to make a difference. Thank you for your support!
