We are the voice of 1000+ Electrical and Software Engineering Students' at the University of Calgary!

About us

The University of Calgary's Electrical and Software Engineering Students' Society, affectionally referred to as ZOO, is an initiative run by students, for students. ZOO aims to support their undergraduate students, both academically and socially, by providing them with a variety of events to enrich their University experience. Through the Society, we hope assist students in clearing the gap between university and industry. In addition to those responsibilities, ZOO serves as a liaison between the Department (ESE) and the many Electrical, Software and Computer Engineering students. We work hard to represent your opinions and ensure that your voices are heard. Any inquiries for ZOO can be voiced in-person in ENA 106, or via email to execs@zooengg.ca. We will attempt to answer questions to the best of our ability and if necessary, direct you to the relevant Department employee.

  • ✨ ZOO at CUSEC 2025! ✨ Hope everyone's having a great start to their new year! Last week, ZOO had the incredible opportunity to organize the University of Calgary Delegation, consisting of 19 Schulich School of Engineering - Electrical & Software students, to attend the CUSEC: Canadian University Software Engineering Conference 2025 in Montreal! 🎉 This trip wouldn’t have been possible without the generous support of the Schulich School of Engineering, University of Calgary (SSAF) which helped subsidize the costs and make this amazing experience accessible for our delegation. 🙌 Over three action-packed days, our students explored cutting-edge topics like responsible AI, emerging technologies, technical interviews, and more through inspiring keynotes, hands-on workshops, and networking events. They connected with industry leaders, gained valuable insights into the world of software engineering, and brought back fresh ideas to share with the UCalgary community. 🧠💻 Beyond the conference, our delegates also had the chance to explore the vibrant city of Montreal, visiting museums, checking out poutine places, and soaking in the city’s rich culture on their final day. It was the perfect way to cap off an unforgettable trip! 🌆🎨 Special thanks to the CUSEC team and Muhammad R., Calgary's Head Delegate for organizing such a phenomenal conference and everyone who contributed to this memorable experience. We’re excited to see how this opportunity will shape the future endeavors of our delegation!

  • 🎉 Cheers to the end of the fall semester! We hope it was a successful one for everyone and that you're taking some well-deserved time to recharge. As we reflect on the past semester, we want to express our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who supported our events, including our incredible industry partners. Your enthusiasm and collaboration continue to inspire us! We closed the year with a truly meaningful initiative—a Toy Drive for the Alberta Children’s Hospital (Alberta Children's Hospital Foundation) together with our friends at the Biomedical Engineering Students' Society! Thanks to the generosity of our community, we were able to bring smiles to children and families during the holiday season. This initiative reminded us of the power of coming together to make a difference. With that, we wrap up a memorable fall semester and look forward to creating even more impactful and exciting moments in the new year. Happy holidays and a joyful New Year! 💙

  • 💙 As it's the beginning of the time of giving, what better moment to host a Winter Holiday Toy Drive for the Alberta Children's Hospital Foundation! ZOO and Biomedical Engineering Students' Society (BMESS) are teaming up for this donation opportunity to benefit the Alberta Children's Hospital Foundation. 💙 ————— • • • —————⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⠀ This Toy Drive is running until the last day of exams (Dec 19), so if you're interested in providing some extra joy this holiday season, there are two ways you can donate: ⛄For physical gifts, the hospital is asking for new, unwrapped toys or books! Any such donations should be brought to either the ZOO homeroom (ENA 106) and left under our Holiday tree or can be brought to the BMESS homeroom (ENG 07). If you cannot access either space, don't hesitate to knock on the door and someone will let you in. ⛄The alternative way to donate is with a direct CASH or GIFT CARDS donation! For this type of donation, please be sure to provide it to an official BMESS or ZOO Society Representative. If you want to reach out to ZOO beforehand to confirm someone is available, simply email execs@zooengg.ca If you are having difficulties deciding, take a peek at the wishlist provided by the hospital: 🎁 2024 Holiday Wishlist: https://tr.ee/iSj-AxLFJ8 🎁 2024 Gift Card Wishlist: https://tr.ee/fUa5K7Nq1J We want to thank everyone in advanced who ends up donating and we're looking forward to spreading some holiday cheer to various children this December 🎄⛄
