CBB members Shi Cao and Plinio Morita, PhD MSc PEng, along with PhD student Kang Wang, developed smart home tech to monitor the health of older adults, improving quality of life. By linking sensors via Wi-Fi, storing data in the cloud, and using machine learning for activity tracking, it reduces health-care costs and boosts adoption for healthier aging at home. Kang recently presented this study at this year's EPH Conference. Read more: https://lnkd.in/gsKFFHmq

A huge thank you to everyone who attended CBB's Clinical Problem Space Exposition on October 3, 2024. An extremely special thank you to our MC Dr. Mohamed Alarakhia and all of our amazing panelists: Dr. Doug Dittmer, Dr. Heather Warren, Dr. Mekalai Kumanan and Dr. Neil Naik, for sharing your perspectives and experiences on the current challenges in our health care system that require innovative solutions. Discussions ranged from cost reductions of prosthetics, patients getting caught in the disconnect of care resulting in unnecessary testing, the decrease in family physicians available to Ontarians to exploring AI's role in health care. Our #UW community was so engaged, taking advantage of each panelist's Q&A segment to dig deeper and offer potential solutions. Further connections were made during our networking session where faculty, staff and students got one-on-one time with our health care experts. We hope everyone enjoyed themselves and took this opportunity to plan some project pitches for our next round of Engagement Sessions with our clinicians in November!
