If you want to stay in a better place, you can go to Ouarzazate first, and then drive back 30km to Ait Ben Haddou village. You can walk directly to the castle from the main road of the village. I’m so happy I was given the opportunity to visit Morocco in March 2024. The country offers so much in regard to culture, foods, and the hospitality of its people. I’m here to share feedback tips and tricks and what I would have done differently in hindsight. 1. Choose where to fly to in Morocco Morocco is such a big country with plenty of airport options. Leading booking platforms usually offer cheap prices to different parts of the of Morocco so make sure you’re close to the area that you want to specifically visit. I myself flew to Ouarzazate and walked all the way to the city centre before getting a grand taxi to my accommodation near Aït Benhaddou. What I would’ve done differently : buy an e-sim in advance so that you can figure out your mode of transport when you arrive. 2. Getting around in and around a city. You can save your time by booking online taxi from one place to another, but you can definitely save more by trying out grand taxi, which is a mode of transport that a lot of locals opt for. It’s basically sharing a taxi which stops at few locations and people pay based on how far they go. You might need to brush up your arabic, which is similar to Darija, an arabic dialect spoken in Morocco. 3. Getting to another city You can either take a bus or train to get to other cities. Trains definitely will get you faster and offer comfort but if you’re on a budget you can take intercity buses but bare in mind comfort is something you have to compromise and you have to keep checking where you are so that you stop at the right place. 4. Converting money I would say the best thing is to either exchange your money in your home country to get the best deal. Always keep your cash for any transactions that only accept cash. 5. Avoid scam It’s easy to fall into trap of people offering services or goods when we’re on a vacation. Browse on the internet of the actual price of the things you want to buy and if you want, let’s say to experience the best and worth it food, your best bet probably to look out on Reddit/TikTok. Those are all the tips and tricks that I have in mind now, if there’s any question feel free to drop below and I’ll happily answer.

The ancient city was built using Morocco's unique red clay bricks. Although the castle looks like a sandcastle built on the beach, the entire city is huge and solid, which is why it was able to resist foreign enemies in ancient times. Ait Benhaddou is a medieval village fortification located in the high Atlas Mountains of southern Morocco, guarding an important trade route through the Sahara Desert. Dozens of similar villages have been found in southern Morocco. For centuries, these buildings made of dried mud have been one of Africa's most outstanding architectural masterpieces. Today we drove over the 2,260-meter-high Atlas Mountains to Marrakech. In the morning, we visited the World Heritage Site - Ait Benhaddou. The village is simple and rustic, full of humanistic colors. Ait Benhaddou, backed by the Atlas Mountains and facing the desert oasis, was built in the 12th century and was originally a Berber village (Figure 1). The village is made of adobe bricks unique to Morocco, with houses and arrow towers, surrounded by walls and watchtowers, with strong defensive functions. For centuries, these buildings have been one of the most outstanding architectural models in Africa. Although it is now almost abandoned, it is still well preserved. Many residents have moved to new homes, but some families still live here, retaining their traditional way of life (Figures 2-4). Due to its unique architectural style and historical background, the village has become a popular location for many films, which has made it more internationally known. Climbing the 50-meter-high sand dune behind the village (Figure 5), you can see the distant mountains and nearby continents (Figures 6-9). In a distant country, the locals cannot tell our nationality, but when they see an Asian face, they will greet us warmly with "Ni Hao". I remember six or seven years ago, when locals saw us, they often couldn't tell if we were Japanese or Korean. Now, when they greet us with "Ni Hao", they are usually right, which shows that the influence of Chinese tourists in the world is not what it used to be. As Chinese people, we should cherish this humanistic ecology, respect the laws, beliefs, and customs of the country we are in, treat others kindly, and demonstrate our civilized qualities.
