What comes to mind when you think of Chengdu, China? Cuddly pandas or spicy Sichuan peppercorns? Chengdu is in fact a mega provincial capital of Sichuan Province and an economic powerhouse of southwestern China. Moreover, the city’s abundance of cultural and historical sights, together with its laidback lifestyle, make Chengdu one of the most attractive and livable large cities too.Known in China as the "Land of Milk and Honey", Chengdu is blessed with fertile land and plenty of water. Located in central Sichuan, it is one of the country's leading rice and wheat-growing regions. Historically, Chengdu was first settled 2400 years ago, through the centuries it transformed itself into the political and cultural center of southwest China. On top of the economic significance, Chengdu also has a long history of scholarly accomplishments, with some of China's most crucial historical literature coming from there. Today the city is still a highly academic city with numerous top-rated universities and scientific research centers. With a total population of over 16 million, around 9 million reside in the Chengdu metro area. There are 11 urban districts and Qingyang District is considered as the city center with attractions like Whenshu Yuan Temple and Tianfu Square. The neighboring Wuhou District is a mix of historic sites and busy commercial centers like Jinli Old Street and Temple. From ancient temples to stunning natural wonders, mesmerizing folk performances to addictive culinary creations, Chengdu is one of China’s top ten tourist destinations. There are so many breathtaking scenic spots on offer, it will take a few days to just tick off the top sites. For visitors looking for those unforgettable experiences, consider drinking tea with locals at People’s Park, hunt for souvenirs at Jinli Old Street, be entertained by Sichuan opera, test your spice tolerance with Chengdu Hot Pot, and last not least, feed a panda in the Giant Panda Base, etc.Chengdu is the economic and transportation hub of the region, so currently there are two major airports serving the city - Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport and Chengdu Tianfu International Airport. Convenient airport to downtown transfer options are available at both locations, such as airport shuttle, the metro, and taxis. Getting around town is also simple and convenient, as there are 12 metro lines to take you around town and stations have bilingual signs, maps, and ticket machines. Temple with Amazing Vegetarian Restaurant in Chengdu
#100waysoftravel
I went to Wenshu Monastery (Wenshu Yuan) in Chengdu and was impressed with its rich history, spiritual atmosphere, and cultural offerings make it a fascinating destination. No wonder, this temple is one of the most significant Buddhist sites in Sichuan Province
Wenshu Monastery has a history of over 1,000 years, dating back to the Tang Dynasty (618–907 AD), this temple is dedicated to Wenshu (Manjushri), the Bodhisattva of Wisdom.
During the Qing Dynasty, This monastery gained prominence when a Buddhist monk named Cidu meditated and was believed to have transformed into Wenshu after his death.
The monastery's traditional Chinese architecture is stunning, with intricately designed halls, towers, and pavilions surrounded by lush gardens, and The Great Buddha Hall and the Hall of Wenshu are among the highlights, housing impressive Buddhist statues and relics.
The monastery houses over 500 statues, including Buddhist deities, historical figures, and mythical creatures. It preserves rare Buddhist texts, sutras, and calligraphy by notable scholars and monks.
Despite being located in the bustling city of Chengdu, Wenshu Monastery offers a tranquil retreat. Visitors can meditate, light incense, or simply enjoy the serene surroundings.
After exploring the entire monastery, before I left this temple, I took a rest in one of their tea houses, and enjoyed Chengdu's famous tea culture while relaxing in the peaceful setting of Wenshu's monastery garden. I also had my lunch in the vegetarian restaurant owned by the monastery, which serves traditional Buddhist dishes made from fresh, local ingredients.
Visiting Wenshu Monastery provides not only a spiritual journey but also a deeper understanding of Chengdu’s cultural heritage and the enduring influence of Buddhism in China.

A Fairy Tale Walk in Autumn | Ginkgo Viewing in Chengdu Parks
🍂 In November, as the temperature drops, the ginkgo trees in Chengdu become more and more brilliant.
This fleeting beauty can only be enjoyed at this time of year. ✔️
✅ From early to late November, the ginkgo trees never fail to impress in autumn. It's that time of year again when the leaves turn yellow. The ginkgo trees in Chengdu are in full bloom.
Among the many ginkgo forests, I chose the riverside park in the city center, which is easy to reach.
📍 Huoshui Park, Jiaolong Port, Shuangliu District, Chengdu
In the sunlight, the golden leaves are reflected in the water, shining brightly.
Chengdu after Dark.

The cooler evening weather is perfect for cycling, offering a peaceful way to explore the city without the risk of sunburn. Biking is a great way to soak in Chengdu's charm, with well-lit pathways that bring the city’s nature and architecture to life.
2. Visit Anshun Bridge
An iconic landmark in Chengdu, Anshun Bridge is especially stunning at night, thanks to the beautiful lighting along the bridge and river. The bridge’s reflection on the water creates a magical scene, perfect for a relaxing evening stroll and photography.
3. See the Twin Towers in Chengdu’s Financial District
The Twin Towers are known for their impressive digital light animations. Each night, the towers light up with creative animations that captivate visitors with their beauty and technological artistry, making them a popular attraction in the Financial District.

Known as the "Tower of Life," this artistic bamboo fountain in SKP Chengdu Mall is a breathtaking display of Chinese architectural artistry. It combines traditional bamboo design with modern aesthetics, creating a unique landmark that’s as much a work of art as it is a fountain.

Winter in Chengdu
When we visit Chengdu, one thing we cannot miss is seeing the pandas, whether it's the giant pandas, the pandas on buildings, or even panda-themed souvenirs. Everything from bags to clothes is panda-themed.
The area we checked in this time is right in the heart of Chengdu.
At the IFS mall, there's a panda clinging to the building.
If we stand in front of the mall, we can take a photo with the panda's bottom.
But if we go up inside the mall, we can take a photo with the panda's face.
It's free to take photos, but you might have to queue up. Some people want a souvenir photo, and there are staff available to take the photo for you.
I've been to Chengdu five times with my parents... Who can resist this affordable hotel??
My impression of Chengdu's homestays has improved a lot.
I took my family to Chengdu for a trip... I randomly booked a homestay and it was amazing.
Huge floor-to-ceiling windows √ Taikoo Li downstairs √ Sunken living room with a mahjong table
If you want to travel to Chengdu with friends and family, have a weekend get-together, or celebrate a birthday, this is the place to go.
1️⃣ The location is perfect.
Downstairs is the bustling Taikoo Li, and Chunxi Road is just a few minutes' walk away. There are so many fun things to do and delicious things to eat! Plus, the subway station is right outside, so it's easy to get anywhere! You can easily visit all the major attractions in Chengdu.
2️⃣ The facilities and environment are also top-notch, with 270-degree floor-to-ceiling windows.
Standing in front of the window, you can see most of Chengdu, and at night, you can enjoy the night view of Taikoo Li.
The view and lighting are amazing, and group photos look great.
It feels like a CEO's home.
The black and white color scheme and gold crystal chandelier are really high-end. There's an automatic mahjong table, projector, fridge, kitchen, and everything you need.
I love the sunken sofa design. The space is really big.
Everyone can sit together, watch movies, chat, and eat. It's so relaxing!
I'll stay at this hotel whenever I come to Chengdu!
AC Hotel by Marriott Chengdu
Recommended ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
AC Hotel only offers breakfast for one person to members in China. However, after a friendly chat, Xiao He at the front desk helped me apply for an extra free breakfast, which was nice. After actually having breakfast, I found it to be average, and definitely not worth the price of 88 per person.
As a new hotel, there is still a certain smell of renovation. The hotel is located in Phoenix Mountain Sports Park in the northern suburbs of Chengdu, not far from the southern direction of Chengdu's development. The hotel is a "short and fat" building with only 6 floors and almost no view. There are more than 70 rooms on each floor, and it's been a long time since I've seen such a dense corridor of rooms.
The hotel has a distinctive decoration style, with the feel of a mid-range hotel like All Seasons. Among so many rooms, there are only 8 suites in total, and 2 of them are for the hotel's own use. The probability of high-card members upgrading to a suite is not very high.
✅ The stadium is only 10 meters away, and the parking lot is shared, which is very suitable for those who come to watch games or concerts. It's only 7 km from the Panda Base, the best choice for seeing pandas early in the morning. It's also closer to Sanxingdui than other Marriott hotels.
✅ The price is the cheapest among Marriott hotels in Chengdu, similar to ordinary All Seasons and Atour hotels. It is a sign of Marriott Group's attack on the mid-range market.

Exploring Chengdu at Night
Taking a nighttime stroll through Chengdu is an activity not to be missed, especially around the Anshun Bridge, which is exceptionally beautiful in the evening. The bridge combines traditional Chinese architecture with modern elements and spans the Jin River. When illuminated with colorful lights reflecting off the water, the surrounding scenery becomes even more romantic and charming.

Staying in a siheyuan in Chengdu Taikoo Li is so comfortable.
I didn't expect to stay in a siheyuan in Chengdu! 😍
The environment and facilities are great!

It's very close to the subway station, so it's very convenient to travel 🚇 There are hot springs nearby where you can take a bath, which is healthy and comfortable ♨️ I especially like the sky terrace here, the stargazing at night is so beautiful 🌌
-
The facilities are also great 👍 Imported projection and audio equipment, comparable to a private cinema 📽️ I don't want to move at all when lying on the soft sofa 🥰 You can also take a private bath at night, which is really comfortable 😌 Breakfast is delivered to the room, and the one-on-one butler service is very considerate 🍳
