There is such a place where no entrance fee is required and there are no bustling tourists, only the wildness and relaxation that you haven't experienced for too long in the city, a niche travel destination with a scene like something out of a sci-fi movie: this place is Fumin's Windmill Mountain and Mayadong Cave. 🐿 Here you can climb high and look far, enjoying the strong winds on the mountaintop rustling your hair; 🐿 You can gaze at the green terraced fields and houses below the mountain, and the winding paths between the mountains; 🐿 If you're lucky, you might see the 'Jesus light' performed for you by the sun and clouds; 🐿 You can walk the rugged mountain roads to the Mayadong Cave halfway up the mountain, pick up large and small crystal-clear horse teeth stones, and rediscover childhood memories; Isn't it amazing? As someone from Yunnan, I only recently discovered this little-known treasure of a scenic spot near my home. 🚗 Self-drive navigation: Fumin Windmill Mountain Da Feng Yaokou or Niu Xi Yan, about 1 hour from Kunming. When entering the village, staff will ask you to register in a book. Then continue driving along the road at the entrance of the village, which is quite narrow. You can see many wind turbines along the way, as shown in pictures 6 and 7. Keep going until you reach the area near wind turbine number four where there is a spacious place to park, picture 2 is an aerial view of wind turbine number four taken with a drone. 🍊 Short hike to Mayadong Cave: Park your car at wind turbine number four, and start your cave exploration journey along the path in the bushes on the left-hand side! As shown in picture 15, the hiking path is a downhill path among the bushes, keep going down, and when you reach the middle section, look for a small dirt path far on the right-hand side. Follow the dirt path and you can slowly make your way to the entrance of Mayadong Cave. There are a few difficult sections along the way, with slippery slopes, so it's not recommended to go after rain as the path can be muddy and slippery. 🏍 For those who want to drive or ride a motorcycle, there is another route: Motorcycles can ride to the cave entrance, and cars can drive to a small path close to the cave entrance. The specific location is a fork in the road before reaching wind turbine number four, where you can see a wide red dirt road. Just follow the road. Warm tips: 🌹 The inside of Mayadong Cave is pitch black, only a few dozen meters long, and can be illuminated directly with a mobile phone. If possible, bring a flashlight or headlamp. 🌹 For the wild paths up and down the mountain, it is recommended to wear slip-resistant hiking shoes and carry a walking stick; it's also best to wear long sleeves and pants as there are many bushes. Sun protection clothing, quick-dry shirts, and sun hats are essential, as well as masks, glasses, and sunscreen. The round trip takes about 1-1.5 hours, depending on the individual. 🌹 After the hike, you can go to Fumin city to enjoy delicious skin-on lamb hotpot, Sichuan pepper chicken, and there is also a Hui-style family restaurant that is very good, tasty and cheap. After eating, you can stroll around the newly built Shanghe Courtyard pedestrian street.
