A pocket of history in modern Hong Kong 🇭🇰

The Tai Kwun cultural center is a fascinating glimpse into the history of Hong Kong and it’s legal system, it forms a beautiful historical space surrounded by the hustle and bustle of modern day Hong Kong. The center comprises off three heritage landmarks - the former Central Police Station, Former Central Magistracy and the Victoria prison. The site comprises a large open square surrounded by historical buildings, there are some restaurants and cafes to help you relax and plenty of historical and educational exhibits to see. You can wander through the buildings with most of them open to the public following an extensive renovation in 2018, the prison cells being a very interesting highlight of the buildings. I loved the cultural center for the architectural contrasts, there are beautiful colonial era building build with brick and stone - which is a stunning clash against modern day Hong Kong that has built up around the compound. The entrance is on Hollywood road and it’s a great place to stop as you are heading up the Central escalators, there are plenty of places to eat and also free and clean public toilets if you need to take a break! It is deceptively large in size, it looks very small from the outside - we planned for an hour here but spent almost 3 hours taking everything in! #hongkongtrip #hongkong #historicallandmarks #familytrip #history
