Explore Shanghai's museums: Textile and Costume Museum

Winter break is coming up, and it's time to start planning your schedule. Today, I visited a niche museum hidden in a university: the Textile and Costume Museum. This museum is located on the Yan'an West Road campus of Donghua University. As soon as you enter the campus, you can see this simple museum. The first to third floors are regular exhibition areas, mainly displaying the history, culture, technology, and ethnic costumes of clothing and textiles. The exhibits are rich in content, and if you look carefully, you can see the entire development history of the textile industry. ✅ The fourth floor currently has an exhibition of Nantong blue printed cloth, featuring some blue cloth dyeing crafts and art exhibitions. The entire floor is filled with various blue cloth crafts, including bags, accessories, and cloth paintings. ✅ The entire exhibition hall is very large, so it's no problem to spend half a day here with kids or if you're interested. Admission is free, and you just need to register at the entrance. There are not many visitors, and you can usually have the place to yourself. Now, let's talk about the drawbacks of this exhibition hall. ❌ The lighting in the entire exhibition hall is somewhat dim, especially on the first floor, which can be a bit straining on the eyes. ❌ Many interactive display facilities are out of order, and electronic interaction is basically impossible. ❌ The fourth floor is temporarily built, and the air conditioning is on full blast in winter, with a slight smell of renovation. In summary, this is an old, simple, and relatively rich museum. It's suitable for nearby residents to visit when they have nothing to do, or for taking kids during the holidays.
