If you come to Dali, you must not miss the hotel, Shaxi Xilinyuan Hotel
Once again, I marvel at the beauty of Dali, which was generated after watching the TV series 'Go to the Place with Wind'. Every location in the drama makes people yearn for, and the guesthouse opened by Xu Hongdou in the last episode is the reason why I came to Dali specifically. This place is surrounded by mountains and rivers, as if it is isolated from the outside world. If you come to Dali, don't miss Xilinyuan Hotel (Dali Shaxi Store).
Hotel environment:
The hotel is located in the Shibaoshan Park, facing the Shilong Village across the lake. It is nestled in a secluded paradise by the mountains and waters, providing a rare rural vacation experience. This is the quiet time and golden exterior building I yearn for. The hotel uses a traditional rammed earth structure, occupying a hilltop, but only has 10 villa rooms. Their appearance presents a Morandi sunset yellow, which is very suitable for taking pictures and gives a sense of grandeur. I particularly like the restaurant and library because they can enjoy the entire lake view, which is simply breathtakingly beautiful.
Even if you live in seclusion in the mountains and forests, you need a high-quality life. The rooms are not only spacious but also equipped with floor heating throughout the house and L'Occitane bath products. Welcome fruit, free mini bar, and goodnight hot milk are the highlights of the spare parts. Every day there are butlers leading guests to participate in various activities, the service is very meticulous and thoughtful. Every staff member is very enthusiastic, making people feel at home.
There are some attractions worth checking in nearby:
1. Shibaoshan Forest Park: You can hike and meet monkeys on the way.
2. Stroll in Shilong Village: This Bai ethnic village is a low-key treasure.
3. Shaxi Ancient Town: An old and charming small town.
Such a secluded secret realm is really worth a special visit! If you come to Dali, you must come here to explore!
Detailed address: Inside Shibaoshan Park, Jianchuan County, Dali Bai Autonomous Prefecture
Travel strategy: It is recommended to drive by yourself (about 2 hours drive from Dali, about 35 minutes drive from Shaxi Ancient Town).
Weekday price: About more than 2000.

Baby explores Shaxi Yunana
A decade ago, the tranquility and allure of Shaxi left a profound mark on me❤️. This year, I returned to this beloved place with my family in tow. Every day, strolling the ancient streets with rich coffee in hand☕, time seemed to stand still.
However, this trip wasn’t all easygoing. Bringing Sienna here ignited many debates. Some believe that traveling with children might disrupt their routines and isn’t suitable for them. Yet, we believe that travel can offer children unparalleled experiences and perspectives🌍.
In Shaxi, Sienna had the chance to connect with nature🌱 and experience a life distinct from the city. Seeing the curiosity and excitement in her eyes, we felt it was all worth it.
But we also faced challenges, such as ensuring Sienna’s safety and comfort. It really got me thinking about the balance between travel and family life.
What do you think? Is traveling with children a good idea, or should we wait until they’re older? Eager to hear your views and comments!

Relax in Shaxi Ancient Town
It may be a little out of the way but I can't stress how lovely Shaxi Ancient Town is. Full of handicrafts, cafés, bakeries, restaurants and bars it's a wonderful place to spend a day or two.
I stayed for 2 days and wished I'd stayed longer! There are even vegan restaurants. It is midway between Lijiang and Dali so visit on the way between either two. Getting there is a little difficult, it takes a train and then a bus, but once you're there ask about local minibusses or drivers. They'll drive you directly to Dali for ¥80.

The most CHILLED. Shaxi and Shibaoshan.
Shaxi is commercial, but still in a nice way. People are relaxed and happy. Nice restaurants and small bars abound. Of course there are handicraft shops, but there seems to be no connection with local crafts people. The streets are small and car free. There’s a river and water area. For foreigners and locals alike, there’s Peter’s Kitchen - an absolute gem of a bakery, that was always jam packed when I visited. Hungry Buddha is a super vegan option, near the large tree. Be careful, the pizzas are quite large.
The trip recommended to me was Shibaoshan temples and grottoes. Again, I recommend Komoot hiking maps and further, to do my route in reverse. Start near Shaxi and hike steeply upwards, marvelling at the rock formations and occasional sculptures until you reach the temple and grottoes. From there, cross the valley to more sculptures and rock features. Then find the paths towards Jinding temple area with craggy grottoes and a lot of monkeys. Down the road to the exit, the nunnery up to the side provides food by donation. It was pretty tasty too!
Overall Shaxi, is a fantastic place to chill and hike for a couple of nights. Highly recommended!

Genuinely Ancient Shaxi
Only 2 hours drive from Dali or a little bit less from Lijiang and you are in the most beautiful ancient town of Yunnan. It’s small, not as commercial as Lijiang, with many beautiful spots within the ancient part and beyond. History is very interesting, let me only mention that Shaxi served as a stop along the Tea and Horse Caravan Trail (between Tibet and Yunnan) for several centuries until mid 1900’s. You can easily enjoy here during 1-2 days trip, or stay for a week and peacefully recharge yourself. I recommend to cycle to couple of places like Mountain Café (great coffee and the view!), Shaxi Bai Ethnic Book Store (for books, obviously, and souvenirs) - or hire tuktuk if you’re a bit… lazy:) #yunnan
Shaxi Ancient Town - a truly magical place
A magical ancient town full of wonder and incredible beauty where there is a clear stream flowing down the center and all the aged design house owners take incredible care and pride in their gardens to add a rainbow of colors and personality.
It’s long been called the Switzerland of China and after our trip to see this with our own eyes - I can confirm it’s really a special must see destination when wishing to explore ancient beauty outside of the big cities.
Within the city there are cute little coffee shops, traditional food, original and immaculately designed home stays / boutique hotels which are a must try, to absorb yourself in the atmosphere.
It you a fortunate to visit in Spring you will be able to admire the river surrounded in flowers on both sides hugging the river. Take some time to admire the old arched stone bridge that is perfect during golden hour in the afternoon and also great for photos.
Make sure to pass by the old souvenir shop in the main square where a friendly little old lady who might just be as old as the town, helps you buy little mementos and strawberries.
Whether you are a tourist or a local, Shaxi Ancient Town should be on your travel list. This really was one of the most beautiful places I have visited so far. You will not regret it.
Charm of Yunnan - Shaxi Ancient Town
Getting There - Shaxi Ancient Town is a pleasant surprise sitting between Dali and Lijiang. It’s easy to find local mini bus that takes you either from Lijiang or Dali straight to the town for a reasonable price.
It is a famous attraction among Chinese as once it played an important role as a bustling trade point on the Tea Horse Caravan Road.
My friend and I rode motorcycle all the way from Lijiang to Shaxi and stayed at a local guesthouse that provides a nice view of the entire area. Be warned that prices for everything are slightly higher than Lijiang or Dali but a visit is definitely worth it. Many people fall in love with how tranquil this town is as my friend and I did as well.
In the town, the ancient stage, temples, alleyways, houses, village gates, bridges, and traditional fairs all remain intact.
First day of Tiger Year in Shaxi
We started our trip in the morning from Dali with the direction Lijiang. Somewhere in the middle between Dali and Lijiang is an ancient town of Shaxi. Shaxi was an important stop on the old tea route, which lead from Yunnan to Burma and Tibet.
Just after we got off the highway, there was a police filter, where they checked our travel codes and temperature. Beware that you still have mountain road ahead and it is quite whirly. Also the road to Shaxi is not in great shape. Although I think they are working on an alternative way to get there.
When we arrived in Shaxi, we were grated by a town, which is still waking up. The pavement, the houses, the shops, the temple... Everything seemed to be out of a fairytale. And the elderly people were really eager to get to talk to you. I stopped to look for directions and a man came to tell me where I can find a toilet and also asked about where I am from, if we were already engaded in a discussion.
Xingjao Temple was decorated with red lampions. Sideng market square too, and all shops had red stripes of blessings, door gods and red lampions.
Everything was dressed up nicely for the new year, but there was no sight of the firecrackers in the old town. I think they all got cleaned up already.
I really liked the town. I think next time we should stay at least overnight there.

When I first saw Shaxi
came in from the ancient town of Shaxi, I saw a yellow-yellow wall with the first sight of Shaxi
I thought the name was good. I took a picture at the door, and then I realized that this is a net red in Shaxi Ancient Town. Restaurant
environment is simple, very taste of Shaxi, the boss is very literary, the raw materials in the store are all pollution-free products
specialties Bai trio, bacon, sausage, ham, good-looking, favorite Ham
signature musk beef, a bit like the taste of Sichuan cuisine, beef tender
fried bean skin, a big one, suitable for children
overall, the experience is good, next to a small bar, In the evening, there are singers singing.
Name: First see Shaxi private kitchen
per capita consumption: about 60 yuan
Shaxi is like Lijiang more than ten years ago. Neat stone road, there is a clear stream on both sides of the street, the water is unbelievable.
Rows of shops are also old houses, wooden carved doors and windows, some are snack bars, some sell clothing, some are hardware department stores, there are also one or two bookstores, coffee shops, cute shops, neither People feel too commercial, and they don't make tourists feel too primitive. It maintains a proper balance between old and simple tastes.
Ancient stage is Shaxi is also the landmark building of the temple on the street. The tree on the open space in front of the stage is old, and it has its appearance in the old photos of the last century. At that time, the tree was still relatively Fine, not as leafy as it is now, standing on the ground. The opposite of the
ancient stage is the Xingjiao Temple built in the Ming Yongle period. It and the ancient stage form the center point of Shaxi. In the early years of the information picture, the people here come and go, the horses shuttle constantly, than Qingming Shanghe map will be a bit more lively.
The world is changing, the flow of years is like a white pass, and the bustling market of the bustling city has now vanished, leaving only the bluestone board to tell the silence of the land.
Shaxi's inn, all of them are exquisite and have a mood, the flowers and trees are sparse, and the public space has comfortable and interesting couches. When people see it, they want to go in and have a cup of tea and spend a long time. I hope that I am an innkeeper, guarding a yard of flowers, boil water, cooking tea, watching the clouds.
The ancient town of Shaxi is different from Wuzhen. It is popular in the ancient town of Jiangnan. It still retains its original features due to inconvenient transportation. Although it has been a lot of prosperity since four years ago, there are still not many people. Ancient temples, ancient stage, ancient shops, ancient red sandstone streets, centuries-old trees, ancient lanes... all of which fascinate us. Sifang Street is the most characteristic place in Shaxi. Under the blue sky and white clouds, the uneven stone road, occasionally there will be puppies walking. The Shaxi without the tour group is more free. Everyone who comes here seems to be distracted. They played chess on the street, or bought some pine mushrooms on the street, or just wandered aimlessly, and we did the same, taking pictures while walking, stopping and stopping.
Shaxi Ancient Town is a place that is not particularly commercialized. It is located in the middle of Lijiang, Lijiang, and it is also a place of paradise.
Because it is not so commercial, the popularity is not so high, so visitors are not too much. However, because the tourism industry has been vigorously developed in recent years, there are many hotels and hostels built.
This stay at the hotel is one of the best inn in Shaxi.
Inn is a courtyard pattern, the old building has been remodeled, both local characteristics and unique style.
The layout of the hotel is still the local residential mode, facing the lobby. When the business is not busy, the waiters are sitting in the yard and enjoying the sun. If you come here, it is very lively. On the right hand side of the
lobby is a sofa and tea table.
Reading tea here, reading Chinese calligraphy and calligraphy on the wall. The overall decoration of this inn is very Chinese, and the decoration from the exterior to the interior is the keynote.
I am especially fond of this place, probably also love the style here.

Shaxi Ancient Town | I went to Dali again for this hidden gem
| I went to Dali again for this hidden gem. Shaxi Ancient Town is the most relaxing place in Dali.
During my stay here, I was free from the hustle and bustle of the world and could feel the peace of time. In this ancient town with a thousand years of history and culture, many places are filled with the flavor of history.
I stayed in a very comfortable and high-quality Shaxi homestay, which is a private courtyard with nice furniture and bedding. It is worth mentioning that the homestay has its own restaurant, which is one of the few fine dining restaurants here. It has its own chef team and offers special Yunnan-style French cuisine. However, it takes a long time to prepare the meal, so you need to make a reservation in advance to enjoy it. Guests staying at the homestay can enjoy a 10% discount.
On Fridays, there is a market in Shaxi where locals and people from the surrounding areas come to set up stalls and sell small items until 3 or 4 pm. The ancient town is not big, and the surrounding attractions include Sideng Street, the ancient stage, Xingjiao Temple, and Yujin Bridge.
Sideng Street is worth a visit, with many interesting shops where you can stroll and take photos.
I usually live a fast-paced life, but here I really relaxed my body and mind a lot.
Yunnan's Hidden Gem Homestay: Guanrui Shaxili
Guanrui Shaxili
❤️ Find a small courtyard to relax in,
😉 Let the reflection of the clouds fall into your teacup
👍 And enjoy a rare meeting with summer.
👉 The purpose of this trip to Yunnan was to "get rid of the work taste," as the saying goes.
✨ Tired of the hustle and bustle, I wanted to hide away in a courtyard to make tea, watch the clouds, and talk to myself.
🏡 Shaxi's hidden gem homestay: Guanrui Shaxili. Enter a peaceful Bai village, walk along the winding paths, and push open the wooden door to reveal a small courtyard. The entire homestay is a traditional Tang-style mortise and tenon wooden structure. Under the eaves are futons and a tea table, and the second floor has a terrace overlooking the fields and Shaxi Ancient Town. The bamboo, early maple, and wind chimes hanging in front of the window are all accompanied by a breeze that calms my restlessness.
🛌 Small details in the room
I stayed in the "Cuiwei Room" on the second floor.
😉 They use keys instead of traditional room cards, and the return to simplicity is delightful. The room has a tatami mat style, and lying on the bed, you can smell the faint scent of pine wood, which is very calming.
😉 The thoughtful housekeeper also provided a lazy Chinese-style bathrobe, which instantly gave me a relaxed feeling of seclusion.
🥰 I prefer the staycation style of travel. The courtyard not only provides a warm breakfast
⭐ But also coffee and light meals, and even transforms into a small bar at night. If the weather is good, you can have meals delivered to the second-floor terrace, wave to the morning dew, and toast to the stars at night.

Morning mist in Shaxi in early December
In the morning, head to Yujin Bridge. By this time, the sun will have risen. You can see a layer of white frost on the grass by the river. Looking at the distant mountains, the morning mist is clear and silky. The morning mist will last until around 9 am.
Despite the 0°C weather in the morning, many people are already taking photos on Yujin Bridge. After taking photos of the morning mist in the cold morning, enjoy a bowl of steaming rice noodles at "Three Fish Snack Bar" on Sideng Street. What a blessing!
A Tranquil Homestay in Shaxi Ancient Town
Shaxi Ancient Town 97 East Garden · Puzhen Designer Private Courtyard
❤️❤️A friend strongly recommended Shaxi Ancient Town. It's more than a 2-hour drive from Dali Ancient Town, so a day trip is not enough. I decided to stay for a night. When I walked into this courtyard full of flowers, I immediately decided to stay here!
🏡Shaxi Ancient Town 97 East Garden · Puzhen Designer Private Courtyard
📍No. 48, Sideng Village, Shaxi Town
👉Near the ancient stage, Xingjiao Temple, and Yujin Bridge. Parking costs CNY 20 per day.
🏡The homestay has only 9 rooms, all of which are boutique rooms. I stayed in the "Wood Hidden Courtyard Bathtub Twin Room."
😉The room is 40 square meters, with Muji-style Japanese wooden furniture, a large bathtub, and a bathroom with separate wet and dry areas. I especially like the tea table by the window. The sunlight shines through the floor-to-ceiling windows. A cup of Pu'er tea and a set of special afternoon tea make for a leisurely slow life.
👍The courtyard is full of lush succulents, big trees, and bamboo forests. Every flower, grass, and tree is so well-designed.
👍A delicious and nutritious breakfast wakes you up to a beautiful day. 🥤The afternoon tea and goodnight dessert are so thoughtful!
😉The sweet receptionist recommended that we go to Yujin Bridge to see the stars at night. There are so many shining stars in the night sky. 👍At this moment, I fell in love with Shaxi! I fell in love with 97!
The Most Beautiful Courtyard in Shaxi
Shaxi Fancheng Private Residence
👍I recommend this courtyard [Fancheng] that has been open for 5 years. Here's why:
The courtyard is truly beautiful.
🏡The owner settled in Shaxi after traveling the world, so the aesthetics are on point, and the details are perfect.
✨The white walls and wood design make it feel like home.
✨Although it has been open for five years, it is as clean as a new place.
✨The rooftop on the third floor offers views of the blue sky and mountains, and the night sky is full of stars. The place is full of trinkets collected by the owner during their travels. I love the ivy and banana trees in the courtyard.
A real homestay🏡
❤️To me, a homestay is a place where you can feel completely free after getting the key.
❤️After getting the access card, there is basically no one else in the courtyard, so you can do whatever you want.
❤️Although it is next to the busy South Zhaimen, the door can only be opened with an access card, so it is very private.
❤️The owner is always in the restaurant next door, so if you need any help, you can send a message on WeChat and get a quick response.
Friendly like a friend
🔥The drinking water is spring water that they personally bring down from the mountain, and you can see barrels of it when you enter.
🛌The toiletries in the room are all imported, so you can feel at ease like you are at home.
The snacks are candies they brought back from their travels abroad, which makes it feel like you are visiting a friend.
😉The most touching thing is that when I returned to my room at night, I found that the heater and electric blanket were already on!
✨Convenient transportation
👍It is right next to the South Zhaimen, and when you go out, you will find a street full of artsy shops. The ancient stage is just a few steps away.
👍Their restaurant [Siyue Creative Kitchen] is next door, and it is ranked first on a certain food app! The food is really delicious.
👍The coffee and desserts are also great. I love sitting on the chairs outside and enjoying the sun.
👍Their homemade Shaxi craft beer is also amazing. A beautiful night starts with a bottle of beer.
💎Address: Next to the South Zhaimen in Shaxi Ancient Town, Dali (inside the ancient town)
❤️Price: From CNY 209 per person
👉Nearby: Parking lot, food street, ancient stage, street full of artsy shops, riverside, etc.
This hidden gem of a guesthouse in Shaxi Ancient Town is so cheap!
Guixinju Guesthouse, Shaxi Ancient Town
👉On the day I went to Shaxi, I traveled along a winding mountain road, through fields of rapeseed, and finally arrived at the guesthouse I had booked.
👍The moment I opened the door, I was greeted by a courtyard bathed in sunlight. The owner was watering the flowers, and the light danced on the water.
👉It was a beautiful scene!
⭐Guixinju Guesthouse is not in the core scenic area, so it is quiet, but it is still very convenient to walk to the main attractions. I like the location.
⭐The guesthouse was renovated in March 2022. The Bai-style architecture is unique, and the flowers and succulents in the courtyard are thriving.
⭐The owner is a local Bai person. He is very hospitable, loves tea and wine, and is a great storyteller. During my stay, we often ate and drank together, and I felt very honored.
😴"Guixinju": A place to live, chat, taste, appreciate, and travel. "Jiahe sai" (Bai language)! Just right!
💎If you need a guide to Shaxi, I suggest:
💎Choose a guesthouse full of flowers, away from the noisy main street.
💎If you happen to be there on a Friday, remember to go to the market. You'll find many things you've never seen before.
💎Choose a cafe you like (if you don't know how to choose, look at the coffee machine). I recommend "Raven" for its great taste and interesting location. "Half Mountain Coffee" is in the village opposite, but it's very crowded, so I don't recommend going there.
💎"Xianfeng Bookstore" is a popular place to drink coffee and buy figurines. I like the village it's in (opposite Shaxi Ancient Town).
💎Go to the alley next to Xianfeng Bookstore and find a tie-dye shop to make your own blue flower cloth.
💎Sit in the square near Yujin Bridge and listen to the street performers. Let yourself relax.
💎Look up during the day, and you might see a rainbow. The sunset is amazing, and the stars at night are like those from my childhood.
💎Go to Yujin Bridge in the morning when there are fewer people. You can't see the sunrise in Shaxi, but you can take photos of the blue river. You can also take aerial photos of the bridge and village, or walk to the other side of the river to see the morning mist.
💎I hope you forget the guide and the wind, and just wander through the ancient town and village without a destination. The wind you feel is unique and warm!
[Immersive Experience] Yujin Xiaozhu: A Perfect Blend of Ancient and Modern
Yujin Xiaozhu
❤️In Dali Bai Autonomous Prefecture, Yunnan Province, China, there is an ancient town called Shaxi Ancient Town, which is known as the "Millennium Ancient Village." On this land full of historical charm, there is a stunning hotel called Yujin Xiaozhu.
❤️I was lucky enough to stay at this hotel, so let me take you to experience it!
❤️Yujin Xiaozhu is located in Shaxi Ancient Town, combining the traditional Bai residential architectural style with a modern and comfortable living experience.
❤️Here, you can feel the perfect blend of ancient and modern, and enjoy an immersive vacation experience.
❤️The hotel offers a variety of facilities and services, including comfortable rooms, delicious dining, conference facilities, and a variety of leisure and entertainment activities.
❤️The rooms are well-equipped and offer convenient amenities such as Wi-Fi and air conditioning. In the hotel's restaurant, you can taste authentic Bai cuisine, such as chicken tofu and cold rice noodles.
❤️When I stepped into Yujin Xiaozhu, I felt like I had traveled back in time. The green trees, small bridges, flowing water, and Bai residential buildings around the hotel made me feel like I was in a beautiful painting. ❤️The room I stayed in was clean and tidy, well-equipped, and very comfortable. Every dish I had in the hotel's restaurant was unforgettable. I also participated in the Bai folk activities organized by the hotel and experienced the local ethnic culture.
❤️Yujin Xiaozhu is a place that makes people linger. Here, I felt the perfect blend of ancient and modern, and experienced the rich ethnic culture.
❤️The hotel's service was also very attentive, making me feel at home. If the hotel could offer more diverse activities, it would be even more perfect.

Xingjiao Temple is opposite the ancient stage. It was built in 1415 and is a Ming Dynasty building with three courtyards. It is the only surviving ancient market on the ancient Tea Horse Road in Yunnan and Tibet. It is open from 9:00 to 17:00.
✅Beiguzong Lane
There is a persimmon tree in the courtyard of this lane. The whole lane is very quiet, with few tourists, and is very comfortable.
✅Sideng Street
The only surviving market on the ancient Tea Horse Road. There are many literary shops and food stores on this street. The word "Shaxi" was also taken here.
✅Pioneer Bookstore
The bookstore is 2 km away from Shaxi Ancient Town. If you don't drive, you can take a yellow bike on the roadside, which takes about 8 minutes.
It is about 130 km away from Dali City, with no direct bus, and the transportation is inconvenient. Because it is far from the city and has a small flow of people, it is full of fireworks.
🚗Self-driving: It takes about 2 hours from Dali to Shaxi Ancient Town and about 1.5 hours from Lijiang to Shaxi Ancient Town.
🚗Carpooling: Available in Dali and Lijiang, about CNY 80 per person for a one-way trip.
🚌Bus: Take a bus from Dali Bus Station to Shaxi, CNY 42 per person, 3 hours.

Shaxi Ancient Town: A Time Imprint on the Tea Horse Road
Walking into Shaxi Ancient Town feels like traveling through a time tunnel, returning to the prosperous era of the tea-horse trade. The ancient town is nestled among mountains and rivers, with ancient buildings arranged in an orderly manner. On both sides of the bluestone-paved roads are quaint shops and residences, retaining the architectural style of the Ming and Qing dynasties. The surrounding mountain and water scenery is even more breathtaking, with lush trees and murmuring streams, perfectly complementing the ancient charm of the town. Here, you can taste authentic caravan dishes and experience the food culture of the Tea Horse Road; you can also visit the ancient theater stage, listen to a melodious ancient tune, and travel back to that distant era.
