The temple portion is about a 30 minute trek and most people of any fitness level can make it. The hike that forks off and goes to the peak is more difficult and requires the ability to squeeze into tight spaces and climb ladders. Be aware if you bring your dog they’ll either need to fit in a bag or you’ll need another way to carry them up the ladders. Hike this portion at your own discretion. The peak hike would take an average group a little over an hour going up and a little less coming back down. Depending on who I hike with I’ve done it as fast as 40 minutes up though. If you have a Chinese drivers license it’s highly recommended to rent a car and drive out to the mountain. The trip from Xiamen is beautiful in itself and you’ll have the flexibility of going/leaving when you want.
