Enjoy the street photography and much more. It is a historic apartment building dating back to 1924. Located on the corner of Wukang Road.
And also try to read something about it—really interesting!
Magellan's Cross & Santo Niño Basilica (Cebu)
#2023travelwish
This is a well-known tourist destination in Cebu City, Philippines.
The Basilica Minor del Santo Niño de Cebu, often known as Santo Niño Basilica, was established in Cebu City, Philippines, in 1565. The Magellan's Cross Pavilion is located next to the Basilica del Santo. There is a Christian cross that was allegedly set by Spanish explorers from Ferdinand Magellan's expedition after they reached Cebu in the Philippines. But in order to exactly appreciate the magnificent of the basilica, you have to go inside.
In Cebu, you must see this historic site!!
✉️ I wish to go to 📌Brazil, participate in Rio Carnival 💃🕺 the most famous festival and biggest carnival in the world 🌎 in 2023. ❤️🫶

Must visit while in Sintra
Sintra has to be on your itinerary if you are visiting Lisbon. The town is small enough for one day visit, but has alot to see.
We left Lisbon at 830 and had breakfast in Sintra before embarking on our journey. First stop was Quinta de Regaleira - a private home and garden built in the early 20th century - and one of the most interesting structures in the garden is the 9 levels spiral well, hidden amongst the trees and rocks.
Our second stop was the colorful and almost Disney like Peña Palace. perched on top of the hill and can be reached by bus from the town center.
The last stop of the day was the Moorish Castle which is only 10 min away on foot from the palace. One can see miles away from the castle top and even Lisbon on a clear day.
Sintra is only 40 min away by train from Lisbon from Rosario Staton. It is a popular destination especially in the summer. tickets should be booked online in advance.

Xiangmen: Contrasting the old & the new 🀄️✨
Xiangmen is one of the eight historic gates surrounding Suzhou’s old district which guarded the city in the past. While certain parts of the wall has been restored, the rest of it is believed to date back to around the 1660’s.
Walk to the top of the wall and you’ll see the contrast between the old part and the new one. There’s also a museum on the ground floor showcasing the evolution of the city wall. If you go there in the late afternoon/ evening, the city lights and the dancing grandmas at front square bring so much life to this place! It’s a nice place to soak up some culture in a relaxed environment.
Entrance ➡️ FREE
How to go ➡️ Xiangmen, 相门 🚇 station, line 1. Exit 3 is the closest.

The Largest Square, Tian’anmen Square
Tiananmen Square is the heart of Beijing, the largest central square in the world. The floor of the square is all paved with light-colored granite stone.
Every day, many people get up early and come to the Plaza to appreciate the solemn ceremony of raising the national flag at sunrise. Above all, during the first day of the year, more people usually join here to embrace the sunlight of the year that begins.

Hikone Castle in Shiga, Japan
Address: 1-1 Konkicho, Hikone 522-0061 Shiga Prefecture
One of the 5 National Treasures (Castles) in Japan, Hikone Castle 🏯 which is over 400 years old, is one of the remaining few with their original structures preserved. The Hikone Castle, although smaller in size than some of the other castles in Japan, is still quite big to me, and we took some time exploring the castle and the surroundings.
As the castle is quite high up, we also need some time to climb up but it's all worth it, with the nice scenic view of Lake Biwa or Biwako, Japan's largest Freshwater Lake.
There's also the cute Hikonyan, which is a mascot created in 2007 to mark the 400th anniversary of Hikone Castle. You can take a photo with the mascot standee which is in front of the castle. There's also the cute mascot toys and merchandise sold in Hikone too.
Overall, for me, it's definitely worth a visit to at least one of the castles in Japan. Hope to be able to travel to Japan soon again.

Charmingly Primitive Old Town in Shaoxing 🎋
Anchang Ancient Town is located in Shaoxing county, near Hangzhou’s Xiaoshan district. The waterway is narrow and strips across the town with old Chinese style houses on both sides. The town looks charmingly primitive with its old stone bridges, walkways and local specialties such as the yellow wine, Anchang sausages and soy sauce roasted duck.
It’s also a living area where I saw elders watching TV, playing majiang or preparing the town’s specials. I also spotted a cobbler at work 👞 For the first time, I saw boats rowed by feet🛶🦶There are also a bunch of restaurants, shops, teahouses and a Starbucks 🤭 The town isn’t overwhelmingly commercial which makes it a nice place to visit if you want to stroll around a place with a more traditional vibe of the Chinese lifestyle.
Address ➡️ 安昌古镇
How to go ➡️ I joined a tour group which provided transport to the ancient town. I believe hiring a private driver or taking a taxi would be more convenient🙂

Taipei’s Famous Public Square 🛕✨
Liberty Square is home to The National Theater & Concert Hall and The Chiang Kai-Shek Memorial. Located in Zhongzeng district, the square has been the main gathering spot since 1970. At that time, martial one party rule prevailed in Taiwan. The memorial became an attraction after the death of Chiang Kai-Shek who relocated to Taiwan after the Chinese civil war. The National Theater and Concert Hall is among the first facilities for modern art performance to be established in Asia. Each year, international or local artists are known to host events at the hall.
I arrived there in the late afternoon and unexpectedly witnessed the flag-lowering ceremony which started at about 5pm. Liberty Square is huge and gets busy in the afternoon. It’s such a nice and well-maintained place. A must visit! The Hall was closed, but I could walk up the stairs of The Memorial to have a look around.
🔵Access to Liberty square is free.
How to go ➡️ Take the MRT 🚇(Songshan-Xindian line OR Tamsui-Xinyi line)to Chiang Kai-Shek Memorial Hall station. The square is a 5 mins walk from the station.

Lijiang’s Shuhe Ancient Town - Back in Time
📍Getting There - Taking a DiDi is the most convenient way to get there. I’m also pretty sure that you can ride a bus.
⏰ Recommended Time - I’d suggest you spend about 2-3 hours walking around enjoying the beauty of this ancient town. I was there around 10 and a lot of shops weren’t open yet so definitely go there later on. Go after 1 and the ancient town will be very lively!
🥢 Food and Restaurants - There are plenty of restaurants to choose from. There are also plenty of little shops where you can buy snacks and drinks.
Shopping- Tons of shops where you can buy souvenirs, stationeries, books, bracelets, etc.

Picturesque Canal Street in Suzhou 🛶
Known as The Venice of the East, Suzhou is an amazing city with rich history and lots of attractions to visit. While PingJiang Road is the most popular canal side street of the city, ShangTang Street, located a bit further away in the GuSu District, is another picturesque canal side street that I urge you to add to on your Suzhou bucket list❗️
Shangtang Street has such an authentic feel of the old Chinese lifestyle. It was built during the Tang Dynasty as a transport facility for the upper classes on their way to Tiger Hill. While strolling around, you’ll see locals living by the side of the canals. If you adventure a bit further north, it’s defo more quiet and less crowded. The buildings back onto the canal and are connected by bridges. They have retained their quaint Chinese architecture and are beautifully decorated with lanterns. It’s a pedestrian street which makes it even more exciting as you can explore around freely and check the shops or restaurants there.
Bear in mind that restaurants along the canal are mostly for tourists, thus a bit expensive. I recall paying 32¥ for a fried rice (which wasn’t even worth it) because it was around lunch time and I was starving. Nevertheless I’ve been to Shangtang Street several times and would still recommend it as one of my Suzhou favourites 💯
How to go ➡️ Take metro 🚇 line 2 to Shangtang Jie station (上塘街地铁站). Exit 3 is a few minutes walk to the Canal side pedestrian street.

A Glimpse of Taiwan’s Vigorous Folk Faith🎋
Also known as Longshan Temple, it’s one of those places that you can’t miss in Taipei! The temple is one of the oldest in Taiwan. It’s also one of the top religious sites in the city dedicated to the Chinese Buddha of compassion, Guanyin. The temple was built in 1783 by Han immigrants from Fujian who used it as a place for gathering and worshipping.
Longshan Temple has a unique architecture and is also home to other divinities. It was jam packed when I arrived. I was instantly greeted by the crowd at the entrance as people were busy buying offerings. It was a bit overwhelming at first, but thank God a local friend was there to brief me about each divinity and their religious purpose. Near the exit, there’s a shop selling souvenirs and tokens which you can purchase as symbols of good luck, good fortune…etc My friend bought one for me and wished me a life filled with good luck and happiness 🙏✨(See second pic) There’s no entrance fee to access the temple.
How to go ➡️ Going there by MRT is super convenient as the temple is next to the station. Get off at Longshan Temple 🚇 station.

The Largest Monastery Outside of Tibet
Situated in southern Gansu, Labrang Monastery in Xiahe is the largest Tibetan monastery outside of Tibet. First founded in 1709, at its peak it hosted over 3,600 monks.
Included in your entrance fee is a guided tour with an English speaking monk. You will walk through the temples and learn the history of the area. You should be lucky enough to enter the main temple during prayer time and witness the incredible chanting and humming it over 100 monks in unison.
After exploring inside the monastery, it is well worth walking around the the kora circuit. This is the pathway on the outside of the monastery walls which contains the prayer wheels. Hundreds of Tibetan pilgrims at a time walk this circuit in a clockwise circle. You’ll hear the constant chants, see their gorgeous traditional Tibetan clothing and even witness some pilgrims and monks prostrating as they walk.
To get to Labrang you need to get to the capital of Gansu, Lanzhou and then catch a 4 hour bus south to Xiahe.

Taiwan’s most popular old street👣
Ironically, I never heard nor knew about Tamsui Old Street until my local friend took me there during my trip. The street is well known in Taiwan for its historical past and local delicacies. My friend told me that there was initially a proposal to expand the railway system with a part of it running through the old street, but the project was modified so as preserve the street which has been there for more than a century since the Qing Dynasty.
Some local delicacies are the iron eggs and Agei (transparent noodles wrapped in tofu).Since it’s a coastal village, there’s an abundance of seafood snacks along the street: baked squid, fried fish, shrimp rolls… I defo recommend the seafood there. Everything I ate was fresh and delicious! There are also lots of options around if you feel like shopping. I also wandered in the alleys along the street to explore around. The street was pretty crowded, especially on a Saturday afternoon.
How to go ➡️ We took the MRT to Tamsui Station and walked for a few minutes.

Top Chinese merchant’s Residence
Hu Xueyan’s Former Residence is a beautiful place to visit for its stunning Chinese architecture and garden composed of zigzag bridges, luxurious mansions and elegant pavilions. The karst cave in the garden is deemed as the largest manmade in China. Lush green plants, beautiful flowers and fish in the pools make the garden such a charming place!
Hu Xueyan was a successful merchant during the Qing Dynasty. Big brain and hardworking, his business was expanded in various fields such as silk, medicine and real estate. He also had a high position in Hangzhou’s civil and financial administration. HuqingYutang, his traditional Chinese medicine shop is still operating nowadays in Hefang Street, not too far from the his Former Residence.

Nanjing- the previous capital of China
The previous capital of China until 1949 (which I am ashamed to say I didn’t know until I visited- I thought it was an ancient capital) was an unexpected delight to visit. We visited for a weekend away and could definitely spend a few more days!
If stretched for time like we were, you need to at least make sure you see these sites:
Purple mountains (Zhongshan Mountain National Park): a huge scenic area less than 20 minutes away on the subway. Beautiful foliage covered mountains which host multiple mausoleums (including an emperor, empress and Dr Sun Yat-Sen).
Old Surrounding Wall: 21km of it are still remaining!
Nanjing massacre museum: I am not a museum person at all, but this museum dedicated to the horrors of the Japanese invasion is powerful!
Boat ride in the old centre: Wander around the old centre of Fuzimao and then make sure you ride a boat through the canals
Where To Stay: Fuzimao International Youth Hostel has decent private rooms, but the real winner was the fantastic location at the edge of the old centre and the rooftop bar which overlooked the canals 👌

🏮Venice of the East🏮
Dubbed the ‘Venice of the East’, historic Suzhou is known for its ancient canals and many UNESCO listed gardens. It is easy to spend a weekend wandering through the old stone temples, riding boats down the canals or visiting the 9 heritage listed gardens 🌸
Located 30 minutes from Shanghai via bullet train, the old centre of the town is preserved and still resembles it’s time in history when poets and artists would flock to the area for inspiration.
Another thing to do in Suzhou is eat, eat, eat! The cuisine is seasonal, which means the dishes available in autumn would be different in winter. A food tour is highly recommended!

The village of Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon
Nestled away in Anhui province, you will recognize Hongcun ancient village from scene one of ‘Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon’.
If you go to Anhui to climb the spectacular Yellow Mountains (Huangshan) then a day trip to Hongcun must also be on your itinerary. The village comprises solely of buildings in the typical Anhui architectural style (white walls and beautifully tiled roofs) with streams and canals dotted throughout.
Stopping by for a few hours is enough time to explore the crooked alleys as the village is now typically set up for tourists. If visiting on a public holiday like we did, go early in the morning. As we were leaving at 11am, that’s when the crowds started coming and we had to push our way out- very different to how it was when we arrived 2 hours earlier.
To get here you will need to catch a bus or hire a driver from either Huangshan City or Huangshan scenic area. We organised one from our Huangshan scenic area guesthouse, who took us to Hongcun before dropping us off at the airport to fly home to Beijing.

A forest of stone
I drifted to sleep while the old boat was pushing lazily against the current; after more than an hour I was surrounded by a magical forest of stone, surreal spires piercing the clouds, as if trying to scratch the blue of the sky. Was this a dream?
I got off the boat and started walking deeper into the canyon, huge yellow walls on both sides, and a drowning forest in the midst of the gorge.
After a few hundred meters I saw him, a giant Buddha; it looked like it was tired and decided to sit, leaning against one of the walls of the canyons. He must have been very tired because he has been sitting like this for a few hundred years.
Bingling Si is located where the silty waters of the Yellow River meet the clear mirror of the Lujiaxia reservoir. You can take a slow or a fast boat from the Lujiaxia dam to reach it. It’s an ancient place with numerous displays of Buddhist art, including a giant Buddha statue.

💚💙💜The colors of Lhasa❤️🧡💛
Magical, colourful and historical Lhasa is filled to the brim with culture. As you walk the streets you will see the common scene of local pilgrims walking the kora circuit, chanting prayers, prostrating outside of temples and making offerings to the monks.
It is not simple for a foreigner to visit, as you need to be on a guided tour. We found a locally owned company, who organized our Tibetan visas and accommodation and we spent our time with a fantastical Tibetan guide and driver. All of our questions were answered, and we got an in-depth history lesson of the area and all the sites we visited.
As a vegetarian, I was a little worried about my food options, but many places sold Nepalese curry which was 🤩🤩🤩
We visited in December, which was perfect. There were barely any other tourists and we had all the sites practically to ourselves. In summer you have to compete with the nonstop bus loads of tourists vying for the best picture-perfect spot.
You should spend at least 10 days in Tibet to really see the area. As it’s a high altitude, it is necessary to stay in Lhasa for at least 3 nights to acclimate.

There’s still a Buddhist monastery, so be ready to see monks walking around. The temple also consists of a restaurant offering a vegetarian buffet (not included in entrance ticket)

Damlatas Cave - Alanya, Turkey
Damlatas Cave is the most accessible cave in Alanya. It is located in the center of the city, near the sea coast and many other tourist attractions so it can be visited in one day with Kleopatra beach, Cable car and Kalesi fortress.
It is not the biggest cave I have ever visited, but if you never went to a cave then you should go see Damlatas Cave!
People who suffer from asthma come to this cave every year and take a 21-day treatment course because the air in the cave contains high percentage of carbondioxide, around 10 to 12 times more than in normal air, and has 95% humidity.
The cave open to visitors at 10am and close at 6pm. Tourists can purchase entrance tickets on the spot, or order tickets online. The entrance ticket costs less than 2$. The cave worth visiting!
