Road trip in Australia, Great Ocean Road
Going to the Great Ocean Road, it would be a pity not to have any road trip photos, so I will post them here.
- Renting a European car in Australia is much cheaper than in Thailand, so let's test drive it. Actually, I booked a Benz but got a BM, which was good.
- Right-hand drive, drive on the left lane like in Thailand, not difficult to drive.
- Thai driver's license is valid, no need to get an international driver's license.
- The speed limit in the city is 60, on highways 80 and expressways 100. People here like to accelerate hard to cross red lights and brake to avoid exceeding the speed limit, which is funny.
- Traffic laws here are quite strict and everyone follows them well. Luckily, I had experience clearing checkpoints in Morocco. When I came here, I was very careful. It's been a month since I came back and I still haven't gotten a ticket. I hope I'll be safe.
- Warning signs are very reliable. They say there's construction ahead, but there really are people working there. They say to watch out for animals crossing the road, but there's a dead kangaroo on the side of the road.
- Fill up the gas yourself and pay for it yourself at a minimart. First time filling up, I was a bit embarrassed because the queue was very long, but I still didn't forget to take a picture.
- There are both free and paid parking spaces (with a limited parking hours). You have to look at the signs and pay at the booth.
Finally, I don't love driving, even though I drive every day. End of review.

Driving the Great Ocean Road
Driving the Great Ocean Road feels like stepping into a postcard. The winding route hugs rugged cliffs, offering breathtaking views of the ocean crashing against the Twelve Apostles. The sea spray mists the air as you pass by lush rainforests, and koalas lazily perch in eucalyptus trees. Each turn reveals a new wonder—hidden coves, towering limestone stacks, and endless horizons. It's a journey where nature's beauty overwhelms, leaving you in awe of Australia's raw, untamed coast.

Great Ocean Road, Loch Ard Gorge
Here, there is an interesting history. It goes back to 1878. There was a large junk named Loch Ard sailing from England to Melbourne for more than three months. It crashed into Mutton Bird Island. In this area, almost everyone on the ship died. Only two teenage boys survived, a man named Tom Pearce and a woman named Eva Carmichael.
Therefore, there are 4 interesting points here. Three of them are on the cliffs:
1. Tom and Eva Lookout, two stone pillars named after the two surviving children.
2. The Razorback is a large, narrow cliff that juts out into the ocean. The overall view of this point is beautiful.
3. Mutton Bird Island Lookout, a viewpoint of Mutton Bird Island where the ship crashed and sank.
The other point is below, which is the main name of this place, Loch Ard Gorge. It is temporarily closed. You can only see from above.

Great Ocean Road, Bay of Martyrs
The Bay of Martyrs is part of the Bay of Islands, characterized by its bay and numerous oceanfront cliffs. The Bay of Martyrs features a beach area where visitors can walk down to the shore. It is a quiet and incredibly beautiful beach.
The term 'Martyr' means someone who suffers or sacrifices. This place is named the Bay of Martyrs due to a tragic story where many Aboriginal people were killed by European settlers who had recently arrived in Australia.
Twelve Apostles
The limestone pillars were formed by the erosion of the cliff by wind and ocean waves until they became caves. Then the ceiling of the cave collapsed, leaving only 9 large limestone pillars. Now there are only 8 left because one pillar collapsed in 2005 from the waves that eroded the rocks every 2 centimeters per year. So we should come visit here before it all collapses. This is serious because the waves here are very high, strong and scary.
Some people may wonder. Originally there were 9 pillars, so why did they name it 12? If we are to find out the real reason, it was named to make it sound cool and have a gimmick for tourism. The reason given is that the name came from the 12 disciples of Jesus who shared the Last Supper. Take that.
It used to be called Sow and Piglets or The Pinnacles. When it became more popular, it was named 12 Apostles specifically for tourism.
P.S. But the most beautiful viewpoint/photo spot that looks magnificent like something out of a sci-fi movie is Gibson Step, a walkway connecting the 12 Apostles for about 1.2 km. to take photos of the stone pillars from below (if you can't walk, you can drive). It's very beautiful, the most beautiful in the trip, 100% natural, unadorned. But you can't go down all the time, you have to watch the high and low tides. It's a blessing to be able to go down. This photo is only 5/10 from the real thing you see.

Princetown Wetlands Boardwalk
I tried to take a picture that didn't look like I was at Saphan Thung Namui/Ban Na Ton Chan, but the weather was quite difficult to adjust the lighting because there were a lot of clouds. But the real thing was beautiful beyond words. The wooden bridge stretched into a lowland area with grass growing almost on both sides, stretching to the Gellibrand River. It was a beautiful, peaceful atmosphere that was beyond expectations and beyond the pictures. We didn't go all the way and almost didn't stop here because the flood closed the road, so we had to go back another way. If we didn't come, it would be a shame because the real thing was much better than the pictures. Nature lovers can't miss it, a must go!

Teddys Lookout, Lorne - Great Ocean Road
One of the best lookouts on the amazing #greatoceanroad is Teddys Lookout. It is easily accessible by car and is located above the town of Lorne. At sunrise in particular this view is spectacular and is often quiet with no one else around. Sunset is also very good and often not super busy either!
If you are lucky you can see the local wildlife including kookaburras. A must see stop on the great ocean road #mytravelhacks #historicallandmarks #travel #australia

💕 stunning nature at Twelve Apostles
#valentinescape
One of the highlights along the Great Ocean Road was the Twelve Apostles and is recommended as a must-do experience. We were won over by the truly breathtaking view of the Twelve Apostles. From different lookout points, we were treated with a different stunning vista of the limestone stacks rising out of the ocean. We also learned about the history of the area, including the early settlers and shipwrecks that occurred along the coast.
Indeed, it is a nature spot for anyone to see how these limestone stacks evolved over thousands of years through erosion and continue to be shaped by the ocean. Maybe when we visit again next time, we will have another different view of the Twelve Apostles.

Life’s a Beach! 🏖️
Part 2 of the great ocean road post belongs to the beautiful beaches along the way! many of these beaches are left untouched and preserved, this makes for beautiful photos.
This photo includes a few spots such as the grotto and the 12 apostles. It is truely wonderful to witness the remaining apostles (I believe there are about 6 remaining) as sadly they may not remain standing for much longer.

Up close and personal with Lamas
Australia is well known for the many animals you will see while driving on a road trip like sheep's, goats, cows and my favourite, LAMAS!
We were staying at seafarrers, a resort overlooking the beautiful ocean and we saw Lamas there were owned by the owner of the resort. Of course we had to go up to them and feed them.
They were honestly so adorable seeing them chowing down on the pallets. If you are an animal lover, I reckon you head down to Australia!

Glamping At Great Ocean Road
When one can't get enough of the beautiful scenery of the Great Ocean Road and the quietness of the wilderness ong the many hikes at Great Ocean Road what do you do?
Well, fret not, you can enjoy a luxurious night out at one of the glamping site located at pebble point. Located up at a hill top, each tent is set up with enough privacy for you to even bath and have a nice view of nature and the sunset. You are able to also immerse yourself into the wilderness and don't forget to be wary of insects like hunter spiders and such, but that's technically the outdoors. At night it can be really chilly up here especially in winter but rest assured the bed and showers are well heated for ultimate comfort.

An Amazing Staycay With An Amazing View
Apollo Bay is a town located south west of Victoria where many people stop here for lunch and dinner with amazing views of the sea when travelling towards adelaide.
We did a staycation at the Seafarers Getaway which is located at 6080 Great Ocean Road, Apollo Bay VIC 3233. This place has an amazing view that looks over the great ocean road, plus what makes it perfect is a great wine which was provided by Seafarers Getaway and also based on the type of rooms we also had a bbq pit located right outside our foyer.
The accommodation promises you unblocked view of the ocean and waking up in the morning was perfect! Watching the sunrise over the horizon is an experience you can never forget!
Book your stay at Seafarers Getaway when you are on a road trip from Melbourne to Adelaide and make this an unforgettable experience!

Apollo Bay Staycation
Had the most amazing stay at apollo bay with Seafarers Getaway.
Imaging having a bbq, with great food, wine and an amazing view of the ocean and the sunset. It was just breathtaking.
Apollo bay was also just a 10mins drive away with great food especially the fish(Barramundi) and chips. Seafarers Getaway is also approx a 45-60mins drive to the popular great ocean road and also to the famous otway rainforest where you can catch glowworm at night.
We also get to feed the lamas right before check-in and also seeing them grazing the grass early in the morning!
This is a place that I would definitely come back.

Great Ocean Road Scenic Spots
Great Ocean Road has a couple of scenic spots that you can stop.
The above photos consist of a few:

- Thunder Cave
Most of these scenic shots are approx 500-800m one way so it's a relatively good hike and also wheelchair friendly!

Great ocean Road
Great Ocean Road unbelievable natural beauty in Australia Victoria. Beautiful in sunny and cloudy day. Must come to.#melbourne #greatoceanroad #twelveapostles
Beautiful Drive. We hired a car, that's the best way to explore the road. We didn't stay en route.. but you can take a 2 days tour as well, spending the evening in Leone. or Apollo Bay We had the most delightful lunch at Leone at Captain Hooked restaurant, serving lobster & crabs. the drive to the 12 apostles is just as beautiful as the destination itself. Some guides have suggested reaching 12 apostles first and then driving down the Great Ocean Road, however to note, is that the banks for parking are all on the left... so its easier to park the cars while driving towards 12 apostles. Be sure to view the apostles from different points including Gibson Steps #australia #greatoceanroad

Great Ocean Road - Melbourne!
What can I say, photos really can’t do justice to the beauty of nature! It was just so therapeutic looking at the waves crashing, and the never ending strong winds messing up your hair, but the beauty of the 12 apostles was worth it, after a 3-4 hours drive from the Melbourne city! :)

The Torquay Surf Beach is not only iconic in the surfing world, but a splendid place to take a deep breath of fresh sea breeze with the morning sun behind you, giving you plenty of opportunities to take good scenic shots and watch surfers ride the waves! Twelve Apostles Sunset
Getting There - Tour Bus / Self Drive
Attractions - Twelve Apostles 🌅
What’s a road trip at the Great Ocean Road without visiting Twelve Apostles! If you wish to experience the golden hour, would definitely recommend going at sunset as the view is so breathtaking! Plenty of parking is available if you are driving. However, would suggest to book an accommodation at the nearby town if you are visiting for the Sunset views as once the sun sets, it will be very dark and pretty dangerous to drive as wild animals could be jumping onto the roads. Port Campbell is about 10mins drive away from Twelve Apostles, plenty of accommodations
available! 🏠

The Amazing Blowhole & LookOuts
Many head to Great Ocean Road for the lookout on the 12 apostle as this is a popular renowned attraction where you will see stacks of limestone located around the shoreline of Port Campbell.
But do you know there are also several hikes located along great ocean road where not many are aware of because most of the tour buses and touristy thing to do is head to the main area of the 12 apostle.
There is a lookout where its called the Thunder Cave where its located among the Loch Ard Gorge precinct. Do come here when the tide is higher so that you will be able to hear the sound of the wave crashing into the holes of the limestone. You will be able to hear this when you come closer to the vicinity during your hike. Do bring along some water and proper walking shoes as you might want to continue on this hike that connects to a 3.2km walk along the great ocean road. To reach this tender cave its only a 550m walk from the carpark, and this is also wheelchair friendly!
