A Spanish city famous all over the world for its mosques
Andalusia Tour ~ Córdoba (Region)
Cordoba is world-famous for its Great Mosque. Its historic old town, a World Heritage Site, is filled with little streets to explore, flower-filled courtyards, charming squares and lively taverns where you can enjoy a great flamenco show or sample local cuisine gourmet food.
Spring is the best season here, with the scent of jasmine and orange blossoms always filling the air, especially in May, when many of Córdoba’s traditional festivals take place.
The Great Mosque, King Cristiano's Castle, Synagogue and Roman Bridge are the main representatives of Cordoba's old town. The city reflects the history of Rome and the coexistence of Christian, Islamic and Jewish cultures throughout history. Recommended attractions include the Jewish Quarter, Cala Jolla Tower, Roman Theater, Caballerizas Reales, Plaza de la Corredera… A great way to explore the city is to join a guided tour of the attractions, or follow one of the themed itineraries suggested by the tourist offices, including Rome Córdoba, the Caliphate Route or the Fernandin Route of the Medieval Churches. Just 10 kilometers from the city, with direct bus routes, is the Medina Azahara, Spain's largest archaeological site, the remains of the former capital of the Caliphate and a World Heritage Site since 2018.
The charm of this city is not limited to its main monuments. Stroll and explore the maze of narrow streets (be sure to visit Callejón de la Luna and Calleja de las Flores), plazas, fountains and flower-bedecked courtyards. In fact, the main festivals of Córdoba are centered around these spaces. The Courtyard Festival is a World Heritage event and is very famous, but in May the town also celebrates the May Cross, the Battle of the Flowers and the Railing and Balcony Competition. At this time, the city's flowers are in bloom, there are outdoor flamenco performances, and the streets are filled with a festive atmosphere. The month ends with the Feria de Córdoba.
