Exquisitely Ottoman: Berat
Situated in central Albania on the Osum river, famous for its Ottoman houses and massive hilltop fortifications, Berat is a must for history enthusiasts. The massive hilltop fortress is comprised of a huge compound and the extensive ruins of the castle. The hike up to the castle as well worth it the fortress compound is so huge there’s even different hiking routes within the castle ruins itself. Interestingly, the fortress is still inhabited by townspeople. There are many different buildings, such as churches and mosques and museums that can be explored. Buses run from Tirana every day, the journey takes about two hours so it can be done as a day trip but if you can stay overnight, it’s even better. there really is so much to see and do here!

Where's Albania? This is Albania!
Albania is an incredible country, so easy to travel to many places by bus! I stayed at Bearded Dad Hostel, the best hostel I have ever stayed at and made so many new friends. Many days trips are organized by the hostels, so keep an eye out of that! Seeing of the eyes, I went to Blue Eye at the mountains of Theth in Skoder, that was a beautiful time. A little cold for this time of the year, but so worth it! You can celebrate finishing the hike with a classic shot of Raki ! #albania #tirana #skoder #localguides #trip #instatravel

Albanian riviera - a hidden gem
The Albanian Riviera, with its stunning beaches and crystal-clear waters, is an emerging gem in Europe’s travel scene, and Ksamil stands out as its crown jewel. Nestled near the Greek border, Ksamil boasts some of the most pristine beaches in the region, with soft white sands and turquoise waters that rival the Caribbean.
The small islands just off the coast are perfect for a short boat ride, offering secluded spots for sunbathing and swimming. The waters here are calm, making it ideal for families and those looking to relax in a peaceful setting.
Beyond the beaches, Ksamil also offers a taste of authentic Albanian culture. The local cuisine is a delightful mix of Mediterranean flavors, with fresh seafood, olive oil, and locally grown produce taking center stage. Don’t miss trying "byrek," a savory pastry, or fresh-caught grilled fish.
Exploring nearby attractions like the ancient city of Butrint, a UNESCO World Heritage site, adds a historical depth to your visit. The Albanian Riviera, especially Ksamil, is a paradise waiting to be discovered.#ksamil #Albania
Day tour in Tirana
A less known Balkan country which in the past few years is a real tourist rising star. Tirana is the capital city and the main getaway to the hiden gems of the rest of Albania.
The main square marks the city center. Everything is on a walking distance: the old mosque 🕌, the orthodox church ⛪, the catholic one are very close. Then you can explore a little bit further the Bunkart 1 and Djati cable car, wich offers you amazing view on the entire city.
Other suggestion is to visit the 360° Sky bar just before the sunset and to make the whole circle 🌇

Castle of Gjirokastra 🗺️
#ancientbuildings
I recently visited the Castle of Gjirokastra in Albania during my summer vacation, and it was an incredible experience! 🏰✨ Perched on a hill overlooking the charming town of Gjirokastra, this castle is a well-preserved piece of history. The entrance fee was around €5, which was a great deal for the amount of history and stunning views you get to enjoy.
The castle's fortress-like structure and its expansive battlements provide a fantastic perspective on medieval military architecture. Wandering through the various rooms and the clock tower, I was amazed by the blend of Ottoman and Albanian influences. The museum inside also offered insightful exhibits on the region's history. 🕰️📜
After exploring the castle, I took a stroll through the old town of Gjirokastra, with its traditional stone houses and narrow streets. The local cafés and shops provided a perfect opportunity to enjoy some traditional Albanian food and pick up souvenirs. 🍽️🛍️
Overall, the Castle of Gjirokastra is a must-visit for history enthusiasts and those looking to experience a beautiful and historic part of Albania. The combination of historical intrigue and picturesque views made it a highlight of my trip.

Historic central hotel
The Hotel International is a comfortable hotel located right at the center of the city. You'll be rewarded with lovely views of the square below and bygone era decorated rooms which add to its allure.
The rooms themselves are cozy but nothing luxurious. They're big enough and like mentioned before have a great view of the city, making it central to most attractions. If coming from the airport, you're a 5 min walk away from the bus stop.
There was also breakfast included and there was a nice selection of food. There's also a nice terrasse which is great to have you out on if the weather is nice.
The staff are also very kind, helpful and professional. A great overall stay!

A sombre piece of important history
This attraction is not only a reminder of the country and city's dark past but also almost a commemoration of it. Throughout the communist era, there were bunks throughout the Albania. This one was smack in the middle of the city but was never used for its intended purpose.
It stands today as a testament for that past, with informative displays, recreations and explanations of that time period.
The attraction accepts cash only and you'll walk through the detailed explanations of the paranoia of the era. I find that at the end of it, you'll have a better understanding of how life was during that time and the tension that existed amongst compatriotes. Take an hour or two to visit this site, it's very interesting and easily accessible.

Roma won’t
Roma won’t forget this stadium any time soon. Mourinho (The Special One) won Roma their first major European title in more than 60 years after a 1-0 win over Feyenoord here earlier in 2022.
Had a good time in Albania. Looks like a small country. The weather was fine when I visited, I doubt it will be the same during winter season. The food was nice. As a big fan of Mojito, I’ll give them 5/10.#tirana #albania #europe #mojito
