Little Kyoto
#japantrip
Owing to its boutique like features, much on the lines of Kyoto. Kanazawa is often referred to as little Kyoto by the world of tourism. Having visited it twice, I do beg to differ as Kanazawa does have plenty to offer which is distinct.
It is home to some of the finest contemporary art museums in Japan, a lively eating and drinking culture is very evident. The exquisite Kaisei cuisine is an experience in itself. The streets still carry the charm of Edo era aura, this mid-size town is a wonderful urban as well as offbeat option.
Especially, for those looking to get a feel of both historical and modern sites of a locally famous but internationally still less known Japanese cities. While often missed by first timers or new travellers to japan. Those who are seasoned amongst us know very well of a gem called Kanazawa.#japantrip #kanazawa #urban #cherryblossom2024
Kanazawa: A Blend of Tradition and Modernity
The pleasure of visiting Kanazawa, and I wanted to share my incredible experience with you all. This city is a hidden gem that beautifully combines rich cultural heritage with modern attractions.
Exploring Kenrokuen Garden and Kanazawa Castle I started my trip with a visit to Kenrokuen Garden, one of Japan's most famous landscape gardens. The serene beauty of the ponds, bridges, and seasonal flowers was mesmerizing. Just a short walk from the garden, Kanazawa Castle stood proudly, showcasing impressive architecture and offering stunning views of the city from its grounds.
Kanazawa is a must-visit for history, culture, art, and food lovers. Highly recommend it!

Shirakawa-go - Quaint, UNESCO Heritage site
A beautiful UNESCO Heritage site preserved for it's gassho-zukuri style houses built to withstand heavy snow and earthquakes.
It'd have been even more beautiful in winter (and freezing too!).
I only planned enough time to try some street food, but it was still a very enjoyable and relaxing day-trip for me.
Hida beef is a must-try if you have no food restrictions. It is less oily and I prefer this to the famous A5-wagyu.
I made bookings for direct bus through and fro Kanazawa station and Shirakawa-go Ogimachi (bus station) that took about 1.5 hours, Y2600 one-way.
Unless you wish to stay overnight for the experience, a day-trip is sufficient to walk around (2 to 3 hours to cover the entire village), visit some paid exhibitions to learn about the way of life of the people in the past, and trying some street food or local-style cuisine at some eateries.
You can learn a lot from the paid exhibitions as they display the items with illustrations that show how they were worn or used.
Featured Places:
(1) Observation deck for panoramic view of the town - 20 min. hike up a road.
(2) Kanda and Wada houses (paid exhibitions) - learn about the people's way of life in the past, how tools and clothing were used
(3) Myozenji temple
Featured Street Food:
(1) Hida beef (2-way) and Pork Sushi - freshly prepared and to be consumed immediately
(2) Hida beef and pork tongue skewer
(3) Hida beef bun - offered by multiple stores throughout the town

Kanazawa - Cultural place with fresh seafood
Capital of Ishikawa Prefecture with well-preserved Edo-era districts. The main places of attraction are all within walking distances of each other (1-2 km) but you may consider using the Day Pass on Loop Bus services available on weekends.
I was fortunate enough to be there and experience the Kanazawa Hyakumangoku Festival on 1 Jun at and around Kanazawa Castle.
I visited the featured locations over 2 full days.
Featured locations/food:
(1) Kanazawa station - many food options, but I tried Noto Beef 3-way at Kanazawa Niku Shokudo
(2) Omicho market - fresh seafood in various styles, sashimi, grilled, etc. 15 min walk from Kanazawa station. I tried Chirashi Don at Iki Iki Tei and fresh oysters at one of many stores
(3) Higashi Chaya District - gold-leaf ice-cream
(4) Kanazawa Castle Park - where I experienced the festivities
(5) Kenrokuen - one of the Three Great Gardens of Japan
(6) Nishi Chaya District, Ninja Weapons Museum - Darts throwing experience at the museum not to be missed and confectionary at Amanatto Kanazawa

Myouryuji in Kanazawa, known as the "Ninja Temple," is an intriguing destination for history buffs and ninja enthusiasts alike! Located in Ishikawa Prefecture, this temple offers a glimpse into the secretive world of ninjas. The entrance fee is reasonable for the experience it offers. As I entered, I was amazed by the hidden passageways, trapdoors, and ingenious contraptions designed for espionage and defense. Exploring Kanazawa’s Geisha District
My first visit to Kanazawa was a delightful adventure, especially when I decided to explore the Geisha District on foot. It was like stepping into a different era, with traditional wooden houses and cobblestone streets.
One of the highlights was visiting a former Geisha house, which has been transformed into a museum. As I wandered through its halls, I couldn't help but imagine the elegant dances and enchanting conversations that took place within those walls. The museum provided a fascinating glimpse into the lives of Geisha, their elaborate costumes, and their commitment to mastering various arts.
After immersing myself in the world of Geisha, I strolled through the district, passing by charming shops showcasing Kanazawa's famous gold leaf craftsmanship. Everywhere I looked, there were dazzling souvenirs and crafts coated in shimmering gold leaf, capturing the essence of this unique city.

Coolest JR Station entrance ⛩ (or exit) 🤓
#wecreate
In Kanazawa JR train station the city welcomes you with some traditional drums 🥁 inspired massive gate. People stops here for a must taken pictures, from young to old, from locals to visitors.
Made of wood and inspired by a Torii gate, this city attraction made me wonder:
After crossing the gate, will I be in a sacred place? Is that place a journey? Is it life itself sacred? Or is it on the other side of the coin, arriving and entering the city is sacred?"
I did noticed a lot of temples in this city, a lot of Onsens and a pretty castle, so I cannot really tell which side of the idea is correct, but in any case both ideas are beautiful in my mind.

21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art, Kanazawa🎨
#日本景点 #金泽 #kanazawa
I have been to many art galleries, but this one is the most interactive one!
The art museum is most famous for its combination of outdoor lake and indoor space, especially the swimming pool without water. It is the art, colors and layers that turn a swimming pool into reality!
Of course, this place is also suitable for bringing children to play, because there are so many places to take pictures.
Transportation: It takes about 15 minutes by bus from Kanazawa Station to Hirokoji
Massive Wooden gate to Kanazawa!
This might be the most current iconic thing in Kanazawa a massive wooden gate outside the train station.
There is also a fountain made watch and some welcoming messages on it, quite a bit hidden quirk
The gate is huge and keeps people busy with picture day and night

A rainy day at Kanazawa Station ☔️🇯🇵
The Hokuriku region of Japan gets the most amount of rain in the entire country. But they shouldn’t discourage you from visiting this beautiful area. One of the many beautiful places that you can visit in Hokuriku is the historic city of Kanazawa. It is the home of the great Maeda clan which was one of the most powerful in all of the country drunk the Edo period. The Kanazawa station is a great representation of how the city values and protects both art and culture while still embracing the future. The Japanese traditional drum is represented in this elaborate entrance to the station and attached to it is a contemporary glass dome. It’s definitely a sight to behold.#localguides #Japan #Kanazawa
