Mailing Cards from the Penguin Post Office 🐧
#christmastrip
Port Lockroy sits on a small island near the western edge of the Antarctic Peninsula. It is home to thousands of gentoo penguins, and also happens to be the site of the world’s most southerly post office. For this reason, it is affectionately known as the “Penguin Post Office.” 🐧
The UK Antarctic Heritage Trust sends thousands of postcards from Antarctica to the rest of the world every year (via UK Royal Mail).
We got to visit Port Lockroy on our Antarctic expedition and took the chance to mail penguin Christmas cards home to our loved ones! 🎁
How to get there:
🐧 Most passengers arrive by expedition cruise vessel. Look for ships departing from Ushuaia, Argentina.
🐧 Book an expedition vessel with no more than 200 passengers to allow for more time ashore. (Check out IAATO regulations when making your choice.)
🐧 Let your expedition leader know you hope to mail cards from the penguin post!
Day of:
🎁 Pre-write your cards aboard the ship. You’ll only have 30 minutes on land here, and will want to spend your time shopping and snapping photos of penguins.
🎁 Prepare exact change for postage. At the time of our visit, it cost $2 per card.
🎁 Ask the post office to stamp your passport with a souvenir arrival stamp!

Antarctic dream come true ✨🐧
We set out on the trip of a lifetime to experience the natural wonders of Antarctica.
In the austral summer, the continent is buzzing with wildlife. Leopard seals, humpback whales, and penguin colonies numbering in the thousands.
The silence and sheer size of nature are profound.
While drifting in a zodiac in a secluded bay, it’s possible to hear a whale breathing and making its way through the brash ice.
The memories we made will last a lifetime, and we’ll always be grateful for this dream come true! ✨
🔹 Want to see this incredible place for yourself? Look for Antarctic expeditions departing from Ushuaia, Argentina.
🔹 Book an expedition vessel with no more than 200 passengers to maximize time ashore.
🔹 Choose responsibly. Make sure your expedition company follows IAATO principles.

Deception Island near Antarctic Peninsula
Getting There - Via polar cruises only; there are numerous operators that caters to different type of travellers, from budget to ultra luxury ships; regardless of which operator the views in Antarctica will be the highlight of your trip
Attractions - Had a zodiac landing in Deception island and saw the remains of an old whaling station and the British Antarctic Survey base. The beach here is covered with volcanic sand and the waters are lukewarm when touched, heat released from the active volcano. Optional hike up to Neptune’s Window to take in the views from the summit.
Wildlife - Gentoo penguins and occasional spotting of Wedell seals.

The coldest place on earth! ⛄️
Antarctica didn’t disappoint! Photos or words cannot describe the feeling when you are on the most pristine and remote continent.
Penguins floating on ice and popping up next to the zodiac, or penguins waddling along their highways they make between the ocean and their colonies which we had to give way to. Seals slipping into water and baby seals at play together whilst their parents were at sea.
Life will never be same again!
