Wat Phra Kaew, Chiang Rai
.. It is a royal temple located on Trairat Road, Wiang Subdistrict, Mueang District, Chiang Rai Province
.. Wat Phra Kaew, Chiang Rai Province is called Wat Pa Yia (Bamboo Forest), but in 1977, lightning struck an abandoned pagoda, and a gold-lacquered Buddha image was found inside the pagoda. Later, the lacquer chipped off, and it was discovered that it was a green Buddha image made of jade, which is the Emerald Buddha. After that, the Emerald Buddha was invited to be enshrined in various places, starting from Lampang, Chiang Mai, Luang Prabang, Vientiane, Thonburi, and Bangkok.
.. Currently, Wat Phra Kaew, Chiang Rai, is home to a newly-made jade Buddha image made of jade from Canada, on the occasion of Her Majesty Queen Srinagarindra's birth. He turned 90 years old in 1991, replacing the real Emerald Buddha in Bangkok.
.. Open daily from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
