Walk along the aqueduct at Nanzen-ji in Kyoto ⛩️🇯🇵
Located at the end of Philosopher’s Walk, a beautiful pathway surrounded by lush greenery, is Nanzen-ji temple. It is an elegant and solemn temple with ancient buildings, where you can feel the charm of traditional Japanese architecture.
🎫 Entrance to the temple grounds is free but you can buy tickets for individual attractions inside, ranging from 400 to 600 yen each.
There is a large aqueduct that passes through the temple grounds. It is part of a canal system constructed to bring water from Lake Biwa to Kyoto. Here there are many archways where, if you find the right timing with no one else around, you can take a really cool photo! 📸 You can even walk up the steps to the top of the aqueduct and walk along it for a few hundred metres. At the end, there is a wonderful view of Kyoto from high up in the hills.
It is recommended to visit in spring or autumn time to see the cherry blossoms or maple leaves in full bloom. However, the blossom was gone when I visited, but this temple still left a lasting impression on me 🌸🍁

The Iconic Fushimi Inari Shrine in Kyoto ⛩️🦊🇯🇵
One of the most iconic places you can possibly visit in Japan, Fushimi Inari Taisha definitely lives up to it’s expectation.
⛩️ There are endless rows with thousands of vermilion torii gates, straddling a network of trails into the forest and up Mount Inari. The gates are actually donations from individuals or companies~ you can read their names and the date of the donation inscribed on each gate!
🦊 Dedicated to Inari, the Shinto god of rice. Foxes are thought to be Inari’s messengers and so there are many fox statues found around the temple. You can also find foxes in many of the shops and souvenirs nearby.
🥾 You can hike to the top of the mountain, which takes about 2-3 hours. It’s also possible to walk up however far you wish and then turn around. The best photo opportunities with the most gates are actually closer to the entrance.
📸 It can get very busy, very early so be strategic with your timings if you want to take photos with less crowds!
🚇 To get to Fushimi Inari Shrine, take the metro to JR Inari station. This is only 5 minutes and one stop away from Kyoto station. Entrance is free with no ticket required.
