⭐ Meet Joanna Plesniak, our Project Manager Communications, who joined our accelopment team in April 2021 and has been an integral part of our company for over three years now. With a degree in Management and Social Communication and a major in film and media studies, Joanna's diverse educational background also includes a pedagogical degree, which allows her to be a teacher of cultural studies. However, her passion for marketing, communication, and management ultimately led her to her current role at accelopment. Born in Poland, Joanna is fluent in Polish, English, French and has some knowledge of German. Her strong organisational skills and intrinsic motivation to constantly learn new approaches, tools, and processes allowed her to effectively handle project communications at accelopment from the very start. She is always eager to expand her knowledge and is interested in a wide range of topics, from quantum physics and sustainable energy technologies to life sciences and health research. Read Joanna's replies below and get to know her a bit better! ❓ Q: What are the main tasks that constitute your day-to-day work? ✔️A: Developing strategies tailored to different projects and audiences. Leading the team of communication experts on the internal level and supporting external partners from industry and academia. Last but not least implementing activities that include designing communication materials, maintaining websites and social media channels, organising events, writing articles, and developing videos. ❓ Q: What is your favourite aspect of working at accelopment? ✔️A: People – collaborating with different scientists and experts committed to contributing to a better future through research and innovation. And learning – regardless of how at ease I am with my job, with a new proposal and/or project, there are always new things to discover and learn. ❓ Q: What are your hobbies/interests? ✔️A: I love hiking as well as running and exploring new places, while dancing makes up for my “mindfulness” sessions. Being a bear-like, in the winter I enjoy cosy home read (usually two books at the same time) movie marathons, and baking. ❓ Q: What is your funny childhood belief? ✔️A: I was convinced that vampires are real after watching too many horror movies with my older brother. To the point that instead of walking when in the dark, I ran from one room to another. As this would save me – haha. ❓ Q: As a child, you wanted to be a... ✔️A: Indiana Jones, so in my early teen years, I wore the same outfit, including a hat that being too big looked ridiculous. 🏁 After five and a half years of dedicated #research and collaboration, the #FRINGE project has come to a successful closure. This ambitious project, funded by the #EuropeanUnion, aimed at developing a radically new #cancer therapy by combining the advantages of photomedical and neutron-based therapies. 💡 How does the FRINGE therapy work? Targeting primarily deep-lying tumours such as aggressive brain cancers, FRINGE utilised chemical agents known as photosensitisers which accumulate preferentially in tumours. These agents contain metal centres like Gadolinium, which interact with incoming neutrons and via energy transfer from Gadolinium to photosensitisers reactive oxygen species are generated that kill tumour cells. 🚀 FRINGE expected breakthroughs FRINGE may contribute to the cure of difficult-to-cure or incurable cancers or with repeated application it could manage the conditions giving an increased survival benefit. With the research and development stage now completed, it may take a few years before FRINGE can be tested in clinical trials and made widely available for patient treatment. For us, at accelopment it was a pleasure to work alongside and support top-notch nuclear physists, cinthetic chemists, photochemists, photobiologists, quantum chemists and radio- oncologists.
