📖 Read of the Week: Global Change Experiments in Mountain Ecosystems Mountain ecosystems are vital for biodiversity and ecosystem services but are increasingly threatened by global change drivers like climate change, nitrogen deposition, and disturbance regimes. This systematic review, "Global Change Experiments in Mountain Ecosystems", examines decades of manipulation experiments worldwide, shedding light on how these drivers impact biological and ecological processes. Key findings highlight: ✅ Temperature as the most frequently studied driver with strong, consistent impacts. ✅ Direct effects of water and nutrient changes on mountain organisms. ✅ Research gaps, including tropical/boreal trees, aquatic systems, and soils. The study calls for global collaboration and integrated approaches to predict and mitigate the impacts of global change on mountains. 🔗 Read the full article: https://lnkd.in/ezAQbBBW Authors: Matteo Dainese, Harald Crepaz, Roberta Bottarin, Veronika Fontana, Elia Guariento, Andreas Hilpold, Nikolaus Obojes, Chiara Paniccia, Alberto Scotti, Julia Seeber, Michael Steinwandter. The Adaptation at Altitude programme seeks to increase the resilience and adaptive capacity of mountain communities and ecosystems to climate change by: • Improving the knowledge of appropriate climate change adaptation strategies in the mountains • Transferring that knowledge through science–policy platforms to inform decision-making in national, regional and global policy processes Adaptation at Altitude will foster exchange among the mountain areas of the world and seek short- and long-term solutions to the problems arising from climate change.

📢 New Publication Alert! Financing Climate Change Adaptation in Mountain Areas: Microfinance, Remittances, Philanthropy, and Insurance Adaptation has never been more urgent as climate change impacts intensify in mountain regions. But how can remote, marginalized mountain communities secure the funding they need to build resilience? Our latest web flow explores smaller-scale private mechanisms—microfinance, remittances, philanthropy, and insurance—that offer promising solutions. These tools provide adaptable, community-centred financing that can support entrepreneurial adaptation efforts, incentivize insurance for disaster preparedness, and assist in climate recovery. 📈 🔗 Discover how innovative private funding solutions are helping bridge the adaptation gap for mountain communities. 📖 Read of the Week: Mountains in Silent Thaw – A Call for Action in the Last Days of #COP29 As COP29 nears its close, our Read of the Week sheds light on the urgent challenges facing mountain ecosystems. Mountains in Silent Thaw highlights the rapid melting of the Earth’s "frozen heartbeat"—our glaciers—and the widespread impacts on water resources, biodiversity, and communities. With accelerated glacier retreat in regions like the Andes, Caucasus, and Hindu Kush Himalaya, the stakes are high: water shortages, increased natural hazards, and severe impacts on Indigenous and local communities. 🔗 Explore this read and join us in advocating for mountain resilience and stronger climate action: https://lnkd.in/eXBcKRkg #COP29 #MountainsMatter #FrozenHeartbeat #ClimateAction #OurChangingMountains
