  • Did you know that improving a single crop can strengthen food security, create jobs, and boost an entire economy? That’s exactly what the Agropark Intégré Project is doing for Côte d’Ivoire’s mango industry. The recent visit to the project showcased how innovation is already taking root, accompanied by Pedro Bezerra and @Aholia Lafleur, Tomás Frade, Head of Mitrelli Water and Food Security sector, was presented with the progress on advanced irrigation systems that ensure reliable water supply for mango cultivation—unlocking the potential for higher yields and healthier crops. They also visited the construction area of the futur industrial unit, where mangoes will be turned into pulp and frozen fruit for local and international markets. This facility is set to empower farmers, reduce post-harvest losses, and create new economic opportunities across the region. Through these efforts, Mitrelli is growing much more than mangoes, we’re growing resilience, sustainability, and prosperity for Côte d’Ivoire. Together with the Ministry of Agriculture, we stay committed to building a brighter future for local communities. When agriculture thrives, so do people. #Sunstainableagriculture #Impact #Mitrelli

  • According to the UN World Food Programme (WFP), nearly 55 million people in West and Central Africa are facing critical food and nutrition insecurity this year. As the lean season stretches from June to August, these numbers highlight the urgent need for action. To address food security, agricultural projects in Africa must integrate sustainable farming techniques resilient to climate impacts and promote economic growth. Investing in infrastructure and technology, and fostering collaborations between governments and the private sector are crucial. Establishing localized food systems to reduce dependency on external imports is essential for ensuring long-term food security and economic stability. At Mitrelli Water and Food Security Sector, we are driving solutions that work for Africa, integrating cutting-edge farming technologies, building local infrastructure, and fostering partnerships between governments and private sectors. By doing so, we are reducing dependency on imports, empowering rural communities, and laying the foundation for long-term food security. • How can we optimize crop growth while generating clean energy? What if solar panels could do more than generate energy? Imagine a solution that adjusts to the daily and yearly needs of crops while also protecting them from extreme climates. This is exactly what agrivoltaics delivers - a revolutionary approach that integrates agriculture with solar energy. Agrivoltaics, or dual-use solar, is the practice of co-locating solar panels with agricultural activities, allowing for simultaneous energy generation and farming on the same land. By combining solar panels with crop production, agrivoltaics doesn’t just create renewable energy - it enhances crop growth by providing shade that reduces heat stress and conserves soil moisture. The energy produced powers irrigation systems and farming equipment, minimizing dependence on non-renewable energy sources and slashing operational costs. This dual use of land leads to high optimization, maximizing its potential for both food and energy security. This ensures continuous access to clean energy, enabling the adoption of more efficient and sustainable farming practices. The benefits? Lower energy costs, increased crop yields, and stronger, more resilient rural communities. At Mitrelli Water and Food Security sector, we design innovative projects; contact us to explore new possibilities for collaborating on agricultural solutions. #Agrivoltaics #SustainableFarming #CleanEnergy #FutureOfAgriculture #InnovationInFarming

  • Did you know that up to 40% of food produced in Africa is lost before it even reaches consumers? Reducing this could significantly enhance #FoodSecurity and #Sustainability, providing more resources for communities and easing the strain on our environment. Let's drive meaningful change by preserving food, saving resources, and tackling climate change one step at a time. • Africa’s population is set to double by 2050, therefore requiring a significant increase in food production to meet growing demand. SO - What does the path to food security look like? This #WorldFoodDay, we highlight the need for investments in sustainable and innovative agricultural practices to ensure food security worldwide, and particularly in #Africa. With the continent’s population projected to reach 2.5 billion by 2050, achieving a needed 70% increase in food production will be impossible without substantial investments in agricultural infrastructure. In #Angola, Mitrelli Water and Food Security sector is building cutting-edge hydroponic farming systems, cultivating crops such as tomatoes, cucumbers, and lettuce. By using advanced hydroponic techniques, these soilless production systems optimize production by reducing root system illnesses and pests, and by increasing the fertilization efficiency. This sustainable farming system has the potential of producing higher yields and, at the same time, reducing water losses to almost zero. With predicted annual cycles producing up to 260 tons of tomatoes and other vegetables, the innovative greenhouses are providing a scalable model for food production in challenging climates. In partnership with African governments, Mitrelli Water and Food Security sector is also developing other advanced agricultural solutions and modern farming techniques, which were recently highlighted here, helping African nations tackle these challenges. By enhancing productivity and building sustainable, scalable agricultural systems, we are working towards a future where food security is attainable for all. #FoodSecurity #SustainableAgriculture #Hydroponics #AfricaFarming #WorldFoodDay2024

  • Mahatma Gandhi once said, “The true measure of any society can be found in how it treats its most vulnerable members.” In many rural communities across #Africa, youngsters often face the challenging reality of limited resources and opportunities, leaving them without the support they need to thrive. However, the Lucala village brings a new dawn of hope, marking the beginning of a transformative era for the young ones. The Youth Village, part of an eight-village initiative led by Angola's Ministry of Labor, Social Affairs, and Public Administration (MAPTSS Angola) and designed by Focus Education - Mitrelli's Education Sector, is a visionary project aimed at empowering underprivileged youth in rural areas through education and skills development. Through vocational training in agriculture, electricity, carpentry, metalworks, and IT, these youngsters are equipped with the skills they need to build their future in a constantly changing work environment. The fully equipped rural school is the result of a meticulous 13-month construction process by our team at Agricultiva Mitrelli’s Water and Food Security Sector enabling the students to gain hands-on experience. These agricultural facilities include free-range chicken coops, honey extraction units, vegetable tunnels with advanced cooling systems, and comprehensive water treatment systems. Following this, staff training and a dedicated mentoring period ensure that the village can thrive and provide a lasting impact. We are truly excited to meet these children soon and witness the #impact of our work; stay tuned for more updates on this initiative >> Agustin Pimstein Tomás Frade #Farming #Agriculture #Innovation #SDG #Education
