I love this recent reply by Sharon Brous for the NYT Dealbook Summit. A permission and even encouragement for curiosity and awe in one. These are both gentle and opening, instead of judging and closing. And the inner mirrors the outer, being curious towards our own ways of being can shift us to more curiosity and acceptance of the other. Learning how to find our inner grounded confidence that supports us to be curious is a fundamental part of the daring leadership program. If anything take this as a permission slip to take the space required for some wondering and curiosity today. ******* Here the asked question and her full response: What is one act we can do as citizens or community members to bridge that which seems to divide our communities? „We are suffering from a widespread curiosity deficit. Through reclaiming curiosity and wonder, we rehumanize ourselves and one another. A society of lonely, atomized people is one at risk of falling into patterns of dehumanization that leave us susceptible to conspiracy theories, ideological extremism and political violence. It is precisely when these conditions emerge, as they have in our time, that genuine, openhearted curiosity is equal parts counterintuitive and urgent. The sacred recognition of one another's humanity is no substitute for equitable policies, accountability or systemic change. But it will be the foundation of any just society.“ Sharon Brous, NYT Dealbook Summit
