After a successful first edition filled with sharing, learning, and achievements, Le Philanthro-Lab has announced the opening of applications for its next class of committed leaders ready to elevate their non-profit projects to new heights! The Philanthro-Lab “Accélérateur” programme supports 10 non-profit organisations, selected by a dedicated panel, in strengthening their models, scaling their projects, amplifying their impact, and making a greater difference for their beneficiaries. The call for applications is open until 12 January 2025.

Mountains are of significant importance. They are not just stunning landscapes; they also support a diverse array of flora and fauna while providing numerous ecosystem services. Known as biodiversity hotspots, mountains are home to unique species that often cannot be found anywhere else. Their varied altitudes and climates create rich habitats that sustain countless organisms. In Switzerland, Alpes vivantes is committed to integrating nature education into many of the environmental measures implemented in the Vaud Alps, one of the most biodiverse regions in the Swiss Alps. By raising awareness among schoolchildren, teachers, and local inhabitants, the association aims to help increase biodiversity. This involves several concrete actions, such as maintaining and revitalising habitats, combating invasive alien species, and setting up awareness-raising stands at events in the Vaud Alps. Today is International Volunteer Day, a chance for organisations that mobilise volunteers to promote volunteerism, encourage government support for these efforts, and acknowledge the contributions of volunteers to the achievement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) globally. Since 2019, the Audemars Piguet Foundations have been leading Audemars Piguet’s corporate volunteering programme. Five main areas of volunteering work are available for AP employees, in line with the Foundations’ areas of intervention: environment, sport and disability, precariousness, social isolation, and driving change for young people. Employees also have access to skills-based volunteering, including personalised support. To date, the programme has recorded more than 780 participations, totaling over 6’700 hours dedicated to the community in Switzerland, despite a nearly two-year pause due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The AP corporate volunteering programme, which was first implemented and trialled in the country, is now being deployed internationally across AP’s markets. The Obama Foundation has recently opened applications for the 2025-26 Obama Leaders programme in the US, Africa, Europe, and Asia-Pacific. We encourage all young leaders working in the public sector, civil society, and the private sector, who have demonstrated a commitment to advancing the common good, to apply. The Obama Foundation’s Leaders programme aims to inspire, empower, and connect regional cohorts of changemakers to accelerate positive, lasting change in their communities, across their regions, and around the world.

Today marks the “Journée oser tous les métiers” (Dare to do all jobs day), a campaign encouraging students in years 7, 8, and 9 in the canton of Vaud (Switzerland) to accompany an adult of the opposite gender to work. This initiative aims to inspire young people to break free from traditional career paths and explore the diverse array of professions available to them. Each career presents unique opportunities and challenges, making it essential to motivate the next generation to consider all possibilities, whether in the arts, sciences, technology, trades, or beyond. By promoting a culture of curiosity, we can help dismantle stereotypes and encourage everyone to pursue their passions. The significance of spending time in nature, as well as outdoor learning, is more widely recognised today than ever before. Connecting with the natural world offers a variety of benefits, and there are countless ways to facilitate this connection. The National Forest Company brings decades of experience in helping children and youth engage with and appreciate the importance of their local treescapes. Its programme, “Creating a forest for learning”, has dramatically increased the integration of regular outdoor learning in primary schools within the National Forest in the UK – from just 15% in 2016 to 90% today. Opening up outdoor learning opportunities, in addition to fostering a deeper understanding of the natural environment, has shown substantial positive impacts on children’s well-being, attendance, behaviour, and educational outcomes, particularly in the most underserved schools. At the beginning of October, the Forêtxcellence association inaugurated a xylotheque in Cernier (NE, Switzerland). “It’s a bit like a cheese cellar, except that here we mature the wood”, said Stéphane Brawand, who is in charge of operations. In the xylotheque, shelves occupy a large part of the space, and dozens of wooden planks are lined up in a row. These planks, made from tonewood sourced from the forests of the Jura Arc, have all been cut to be used for making musical instruments in several years, once the wood has thoroughly dried. This xylotheque, which is part of a global project aimed at identifying and promoting Jura Arc resonance wood, as well as establishing a supra-regional value chain for this rare and invaluable resource, is one of the many initiatives supported by the Audemars Piguet Foundation for Trees. The scenario: A major operation in a neighbourhood of Génoville has been triggered by a gas leak that caused an explosion. REDOG - Swiss Association for Search and Rescue Dogs deployed two teams of dogs, dog handlers, and technical detection specialists to the scene of the incident. Although it was an exercise in the military training village of Epeisses near Geneva, the scenario was designed to be as realistic as possible: there were residents, victims, and injured people, as well as the media. These roles were played by Audemars Piguet volunteers, who participated in a pilot activity organised by the Audemars Piguet Foundations, aimed at contributing to the training of REDOG’s regional teams across Switzerland. The dog teams spent more than three hours searching for trapped individuals, rescuing survivors, and providing first aid.
