🎓Portrait of Prof. Lorenzo Alberio🎓 As we continue our series showcasing the new #ambassadors inducted this fall by Lausanne Montreux Congress, we are excited to introduce Prof. Lorenzo ALBERIO. Lorenzo Alberio is a Full Professor of #Haematology at the Faculty of Biology and Medicine at the University of Lausanne (UNIL) and Head Physician in the Service and Central Haematology Laboratory at the CHUV | Lausanne university hospital. He oversees the Clinical Division of General Haematology and Haemostasias, as well as the Haematology Diagnostic Laboratory. After studying medicine at the University of Bern, Lorenzo completed his clinical training in Internal Medicine and Haematology across Switzerland (Lugano, Locarno, Bern). He has conducted research in the USA (University of Oklahoma), France (Etablissement Français Du Sang, Strasbourg), and Switzerland (Theodor-Kocher-Institute, Bern). He founded his own research group in Lausanne and is recognized as one of the #pioneers in the field of procoagulant platelets. His work also focuses on the diagnostic approach and treatment of heparin-induced thrombocytopenia, along with the clinical relevance of global coagulation assays in bleeding disorders, liver cirrhosis, and haematologic malignancies. Supported by the Swiss National Science Foundation SNSF, Lorenzo has received several prestigious awards, including the Ellerman Prize and the Johann Lukas Schönlein Prize. Lorenzo has been deeply engaged in various professional societies. He has served on the board of the Society of Thrombosis and Haemostasis Research (GTH) and as vice-chairman of the Swiss Haemophilia Network (SHN). Currently, he is a board member of the Swiss Society of Haematology (SGH-SSH) and Chairman of the Expert Committee of the Swiss Association of Laboratory Medicine (FAMH). Thanks to his dedication and active involvement, Lorenzo played a key role in bringing the 69th Annual Meeting of the Gesellschaft für Thrombose- und Hämostaseforschung e.V., GTH to Lausanne. The event will be held at Beaulieu SA from 18–21 February 2025.
