It's this time of the year again: Father Christmas is back in the neighbourhood of the Caux Palace! High up on the Rochers-de-Naye, he has taken residence until 24 December with messages of humanity and hope to those who come and visit him: "People are receptive to what is going on around them. You need to have hope. It's very important." Those who take the train up the mountain will come past another place where hope and our shared humanity have been at the centre for nearly 80 years and the Caux Palace, our centre for peacebuilding and dialogue, continues to offer a safe space for people from all walks of life for honest conversations and inspiration. “Leadership to guide us out of these multiple intersecting crises is in short supply. We need leaders who value long-term stability over short term. We urgently need this leadership from governments, civil society AND from business” said Volker Türk, United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, on 25 November during the opening session of the UN Forum on Business and Human Rights in Geneva. Since its inception in 2012, the annual UN Forum has gathered thousands from around the globe to advance the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights (UNGPs). These principles provide a comprehensive framework for addressing the human rights impacts of business activities. At the conclusion of the forum's first day, Ignacio Packer, Executive Director of the Caux Initiatives of Change Foundation, underscored the transformative power of trust in the business sector: "The influence of business leaders in building trust is essential for steering the world toward stability, progress, and a people-centered economy," he remarked. "I am inspired, for example, by the work of the Caux Round Table-Japan and its efforts to promote sustainable corporate growth and social responsibility." This year's Business and Human Rights Conference, hosted by the Caux Round Table-Japan on 25 October in Tokyo, brought together 225 corporate leaders, executives, and experts from several Asian countries. Thirty years ago, the Caux Round Table (CRT) Principles for Business were developed, uniquely blending Eastern and Western approaches to ethical business practices. As Christoph Spreng notes, Kaizen offers a powerful emphasis on businesses taking an active role in driving positive societal change—a need more critical than ever. (Read more: https://lnkd.in/ehHhpMwr) The importance of corporate responsibility extends beyond conferences and forums. In Switzerland, the Coalition for Responsible Multinationals—of which the Caux Foundation is a founding member—has launched efforts to promote a new popular initiative. This movement calls for Switzerland to adopt effective legislation on multinational corporate responsibility, mirroring laws already enacted in the European Union. Such a framework would ensure accountability and alignment with global standards on human rights and environmental sustainability. As the UN Forum in Geneva concluded its first day, one message was clear: leadership, trust, and a commitment to continuous improvement are indispensable for businesses to contribute to a people-centered economy - and therefore also to democracy in the wider sense. Let's continue the conversation on people-centered economy (in collaboration with OHCR) on 8 - 12 July 2025 at the Caux Democracy Forum! #humanrights #ethicalbusiness #ethicalleadership #businessprinciples #peoplecentred #democracy #CauxDemocracy #bethechange Jacqueline Coté Inner Development Goals United Nations Human Rights John Bond Hiroshi Ishida Todd Howland Therese Björk Pierre Zwahlen

THE CAUX PALACE HITS THE SCREENS IN NEW RTS SERIES "WINTER PALACE" Did you know? On 2 November, the highly-anticipated new RTS series "Winter Palace”, in collaboration with Netflix, premiered at the Geneva International Film Festival - GIFF with a screening of its first two episodes. The series, directed by Pierre Monnard, a prominent figure in the Swiss audiovisual landscape, was partly filmed at the Caux Palace and we were thrilled to welcome the team in Caux where they did an amazing job recreating in detail the atmosphere of the late 19th century, including a ballroom scene. It is not surprising that the Caux Palace was chosen as a location to be part of the backdrop of the series. With its high local visibility, perched up above the Leman, and classified as a building of national interest, this former Belle Époque hotel is a unique piece of Swiss heritage. Its architecture, history and cultural role make it a fascinating place and we are very proud of our team of highly-skilled craftsman who are doing an amazing job maintaining and restoring the Caux Palace's rich heritage. SAVE THE DATE and watch the full series, starting 26 December 2024 on RTS 1 and Play RTS and broadcast early 2025 on Netflix. MEETING OF THE FRIENDS OF CAUX IOFC ASSOCIATION This Sunday, the Friends of Caux IofC association met in Bienne, Switzerland, to prepare a weekend that will take place in spring 2015 at the #CauxPalace, with the aim of developing new networks for Initiatives of Change in Switzerland. Moments of silence, a practice very much at the core of Initiatives of Change's approach, allowed the participants to seek inspiration for the year 2025, and the group also remembered with gratefulness Fulvia Spoerri from Switzerland, who had been deeply involved in the IofC movement for many decades and died on 16 November 2024. Anne-Catherine Sutermeister, Head of Community Engagement in Switzerland at the Caux Initiatives of Change Foundation, presented the many diverse projects planned for 2025. The Friends of Caux IofC Association is currently in the process of setting up a working group implementing projects that are furthering the aims of Initiatives of Change and increasing the visibility of the events at the Caux Palace, and would be delighted to hear from anyone who would like to continue the work started in Bienne. At the end of the afternoon, a few quotes stood out: "the joy of being together", "needs and promises" and "openness" and what resonated with all participants was: "This day has given us a lot and strengthened our conviction that we have something to contribute to this world." Do you live in Switzerland and are interested in working with the Friends of Caux? If so, it would be a pleasure to welcome you.
