Birgit is a Co-Founder & board member of the international NPO Swiss Initiative - Culture Projects and of the Swiss Association "Wir sind Klima" (Klimatag). As the former Head of Marketing & Communications for EY Switzerland and the architect of the nationwide 'digitalday' initiative, Birgit's approach earned her a place among the "Top 100 Women in Business" 2018, Switzerland (Category: Digital Transformation).
In 2016, she co-founded a UNESCO-patronaged non-profit. Their ground-breaking project in Sudan, selected from 800 worldwide applicants, culminated in an unprecedented NGO summit & art festival. This initiative, overcoming significant political and economic obstacles, exemplified Birgit's resilience & vision, leading to a compelling TEDX talk. Birgit is also an advisory board member of Prio Partners. From her roots at UBS to her transformative work with digitalswitzerland, coupled with a master's degree from the Univ. of Zurich, exemplifies the power of combining corporate acumen with a passion for human connection & societal impact.
Amar is currently the Global Head of Climate & Sustainability Solutions for Zurich Resilience Solutions. In this role he supports customers in identifying, evaluating, and improving physical & operational resilience related to natural hazards & climate change. He has led the Climate Resilience team since its inception in 2021.
Prior to joining Zurich Insurance in 2011 he held several roles in the civil engineering sector, specializing in large-scale infrastructure projects (e.g. energy infrastructure, desalination plants).
He started his career with Zurich as a construction risk engineer before leading the European hub of specialists. He developed and led the natural hazards resilience service after the 2011 Thailand floods and was also the global head of the natural hazards risk engineering technical centre.
Dr. Rahman earned a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering (Univ. of Baghdad) in 1988. He completed his PhD in earthquake engineering & structural dynamics (Univ. of Canterbury, Christchurch) and went on to complete two post-doctoral fellowships (Univ. of Canterbury / Technical Univ. of Darmstadt). He earned an Executive MBA (Univ. of Strathclyde, Glasgow) in 2011.
