Building bridges for environmental integrity - EMFF at COP29 Azerbaijan We are proud to share that Environmental Markets Fairness Foundation (EMFF) participated in #COP29 as official guests of UN Climate Change, contributing to key initiatives aligned with our commitment to sustainability and environmental justice. Faith and sustainability - A bridge to change A highlight was our collaboration with the UN Climate Change Global Innovation Hub at the event “Faith and Sustainability: A Spiritual Approach towards Environmental Responsibility.” Held on November 15th, this session explored how spirituality drives environmental and social resilience. It was rewarding to see months of preparation with Emilce Cuda (Holy See), Massamba Thioye (UN Climate Change), and Patricio Lombardi (EMFF) come to life. Together, we highlighted the role of interfaith dialogue in addressing the climate crisis. As we approach the 10th anniversary of Laudato Si’, we recognize faith and spirituality as catalysts for global commitment to sustainability and the well-being of our Common Home. Latin America’s strategic role On November 16th, we hosted “The Key Role of Environmental Markets in Latin America” at the IETA Business Hub, supported by Edenor. Latin America, with its biodiversity, critical resources, and agricultural leadership, is key to advancing environmental integrity and social justice. We shared insights from securing non-reimbursable funding for Argentina’s Atlantic Forest, which paved the way for discussions on the Gran Chaco Americano—a biome with vast potential for integrating conservation and sustainable production. Liliana Paniagua’s powerful statement captured the essence of our vision: “You cannot conserve without producing, nor produce without conserving.” Our panel featured inspiring voices: - Emilce Cuda (Holy See): advocated for bridges between productive sectors and nature’s guardians. - Silvana E. Coria (Edenor): highlighted the private sector’s role in the energy transition. - Rocio Sanz Cortes (#LEAFCoalition): stressed transparency and safeguards in climate projects. - Javier Manzanares Allen, MBA,EMBA, PhD (ALLENMANZA INC): discussed financing opportunities for transformative change. - Liliana Paniagua (Redes Chaco): emphasized the synergy of sustainable production and conservation. Our commitment At COP29, we reaffirmed our mission to act as catalysts for positive change, fostering cross-sector collaboration and championing environmental responsibility. Latin America’s strategic role, with its unparalleled natural resources, is key to advancing environmental integrity and social equity. By building bridges between the Global North and South, we pave the way for strong, respectful partnerships that drive a more equitable and resilient future. 🔗 Read the full article here https://lnkd.in/eh9E4vGZ #COP29 #Baku #Sustainability #EnvironmentalJustice #LatinAmerica #FaithandSustainability #EMFF

Our Journey at #COP16 in Cali Strengthens our mission to build bridges for environmental market integrity and advance the transition toward integral ecology. Protecting biodiversity is essential to address the challenges of the global environmental crisis, and much of that biological diversity is found in Latin America. From our perspective, true justice means recognizing the urgency of financing nature to contribute to global well-being. But this financing must be transparent, integral, and dedicated to high-quality projects that benefit both ecosystems and local communities. At #COP16, we collaborated in a bilateral meeting with Oxford University’s Integral Ecology Research Network (IERN) and EcoCitizen, with the Hon. #EmilceCuda, Secretary of the Vatican’s Pontifical Commission for Latin America; Fr. Peter Rožič SJ, Director of IERN; Salvatore Coppola-Finegan, Chairman of EcoCitizen; our Executive Director Patricio Lombardi; and our Executive Coordinator Mayra Berezowski. We were deeply inspired to share and discuss the principles of “Laudato Si,” Pope Francis’ encyclical on caring for our common home, as a core focus of our conversation. Additionally, we co-organized the panel “Catalyzing Positive Action for Nature through Biodiversity Credits: A Holistic Approach from Latin America” with Cercarbono and Conservation International. Together with Emilce Cuda, Sara Présiga Romero, Director of Strategy and Communications at EcoRegistry, Fabio Arjona, Vice President of Conservation International Colombia, and Patricio Lombardi, we tackled key topics: the importance of alliances for conservation financing, the role of biodiversity credits in achieving global objectives, and the active involvement of local communities to ensure each project’s success. Read the full story of our intervention at COP16 on our website. 🔗 https://lnkd.in/dmsPxchU Let’s stay connected and move forward together in this mission! #Biodiversity #COP16 #IntegralEcology #EnvironmentalMarkets #ClimateCrisis #LatinAmerica #EnvironmentalJustice #LaudatoSi #Conservation

What a experience #TerrasTuscany 2024! Thank you dear friend Andrea Gori for the inicial invitation. Thank you Marvin Rottenberg you made it. Congratulations to you and to all Terras It was an incredibly valuable experience for us. We had the opportunity to bring the voice of Latin America, a region that holds over 50% of the planet’s biodiversity. During the event, we emphasized that biodiversity is the operating system of nature—without these vital ecosystem services, nothing else would function or make sense. These discussions took place in a setting like Tuscany, where nature was the true protagonist. We had the opportunity to spend three days together, sharing ideas and knowledge from diverse perspectives, including the private sector, faith, spirituality, science and environmental markets as one of the practical solutions to mitigate the global environmental crisis. At Environmental Markets Fairness Foundation, we believe that opportunities where key CSOs are present are always the perfect moment to remind them that conservation without funding is just conversation. Moreover, the voice of the Global South must be heard. To illustrate, one of the top 3 world’s leading consultancies in the world, lecturing from the Global North, stated at Davos a couple of years ago, that 54% of global GDP depends on nature... And I ask myself: where do they think the other 46% comes from? We are nature. Let’s focus our attention where the real problem lies. We need to live on a more compassionate planet, and for that, the solutions are based in nature—meaning, they are rooted in us. From the incredible group, I will mention just six fascinating women with whom I had the chance to exchange ideas, and to whom I am deeply grateful. I walk away with more than one valuable lesson. Roberta Boscolo (Climate Leader of #WMO) & #EmilceCuda an official appointed from the Vatican and one of Pope Francis best ally, his voice for Latin America. As Andrea said, they engaged in a powerful dialogue of faith and science. #IntegralEcology Elena Morettini (CSO of #Globant) Sandrine Dixson-Declève (The Club of Rome), Prof. Dr. Anabel Ternès von Hattburg and Molly Voss Fannon Thank you all 🙏 #biodiversity #VCM #climatechange

Argentina's carbon markets are evolving, moving beyond traditional renewable energy and waste management projects towards more diverse approaches, including jurisdictional REDD+ (J-REDD) and agriculture, forestry, and land use projects (AFOLU). This shift is critical as recent decisions have impacted renewable energy credits eligibility under international standards. With Argentina advancing its carbon market structure, including the cap-and-trade system under the Milei administration, investors have a unique opportunity to engage early in this growing market. These developments align with Argentina's goal to limit greenhouse gas emissions to 349 million tons of CO2e by 2030, fostering sustainable growth and international trade in high-quality carbon credits. Expanding the voluntary carbon market offers significant opportunities for high-quality credits, potentially boosting both environmental preservation and economic development. Argentina's diversification strategy in carbon markets could position the country as a leader in global environmental projects, offering new opportunities for sustainable development and international trade in high-quality carbon credits. At Environmental Markets Fairness Foundation, we recognize the importance of Argentina's diversified approach to carbon markets in driving both environmental and economic progress. Fostering transparency, integrity, and effectiveness in these markets will help secure a sustainable future through credible and impactful carbon credits. #Argentina #LATAM #CarbonMarkets #CarbonCredits #Sustainability #REDD+ #Biodiversity #SustainableDevelopment #EMFF
