#DYK that coffee is the most important agricultural cash crop and the second most valuable export in Timor-Leste? A full third of the country’s population depends on coffee as their primary source of income. Through a partnership with Fairtrade Australia & New Zealand, the EIF has helped enhance both the quality and quantity of Timor-Leste’s green bean coffee exports under Fairtrade and organic terms. Exports grew from 1 container (18 MT or 19,200 kg) in 2018 to 12 containers by 2022, reaching new markets in #Canada, #Japan, and the #USA. Farmers and their cooperatives have also gained a premium worth $0.44 per kg of certified exportable green beans from traders, helping boost community development projects. This initiative goes beyond coffee—it includes accessible-water project, capacity-building programmes in women’s leadership and governance, and it provides technical support to meet Fairtrade climate standards. Continued support is essential to strengthen this coffee ecosystem and empower local communities and women. 🌱💪 Hang Tran David Daepp
