🌍 Pushing the Boundaries of Reservoir Modeling 🏞️ We're thrilled to see the incredible advancements in integrating process-based forward modeling with multi-point statistics, presented at the 2nd Edition: AAPG Geosciences Technology Workshop! This innovative study, a collaboration between SLB, Petrobras, and the Ephesia Group, demonstrates a novel approach to better predict stratigraphic and sedimentary patterns in carbonate reservoirs. 🛠️🔬 By combining SLB’s GPM (Geological Process Modeler) with our DeeSse (Multi-point Statistic Method), this workflow blends hard data with conceptual models, overcoming traditional limitations. COMBINING PROCESS-BASED FORWARD MODELING WITH MULTI-POINT STATISTIC TO BETTER PREDICT STRATIGRAPHIC AND SEDIMENTARY PATTERNS IN CARBONATE RESERVOIR MODELS FROM SAPINHOA FIELD, SANTOS BASIN - BRAZIL We recently published at 2ND EDITION: AAPG GEOSCIENCES TECHNOLOGY WORKSHOP a study integrating GPM/Petrel (Geological Process Modeler - SLB) and DS (DeeSse - Ephesia) to create a Innovative Workflow for Reservoir Modeling. The study aimed at creating a robust process-based model from the best O&G forward modeling software in the industry, the GPM, representing a carbonate platform stratigraphy (Figure 1) and combining it with a Multi-point Statistic method (DeeSse) to reproduce sedimentary bodies based on a training image. The idea is to blend hard data and conceptual ideas to overcome the need of a variogram as Geostatistic method requires. Instead of using the forward model as a training image, like the most common work integrating these two methodologies, we created a training image based on sedimentology concepts, and used the GPM outcomes, such as bathymetry, sediment proportion and wave power, as trends on MPS (Figure 2). The results follow the major stratigraphic trends controlled by GPM properties and create/predict the sedimentary bodies as the training image pattern (Figure 3). This is a preliminary result and soon we will publish the outcomes from this robust integrated study by SLB and Petrobras. This study is part of a SLB and Petrobras co-development Project.
