Climeworks' Orca plant in Iceland has received the first-ever AAA rating from BeZero Carbon, a London-based carbon credit rating agency. This recognition marks the highest rating in the industry for carbon capture projects. Operational since 2021, the Orca plant captures CO2 using geothermal energy and collaborates with Carbfix for underground storage. GraphEnergyTech Ltd, a Swiss start-up, has raised GBP 1 million in its first funding round, led by aramco's venture arm. The Lausanne-based company focuses on developing graphene electrodes to replace silver in solar cells, aiming to maintain or improve power conversion efficiency. This applies to carbon sinks listed in the Global C-Sink Registry with validated documentation. CSI aims to merge the registry with its Transition Registry by March 2025. Large Swiss companies have reduced their CO2 emissions by 8.9% over the past two years. The 20 largest Swiss firms emitted 81 million tonnes of CO2 in 2023, with significant reductions from Novartis and Geberit. However, emissions from the value chain remain high, totaling 256 million tonnes.
