  • 📢 A new research Article by Dr. Jacob M. Dougherty and Dr. Naveen F. Sangji's team: "Lost Work Due to Burn-Related Disability in a US Working Population" 💡 As the new year begins, we wish all a smooth return to work. At the same time, let us not forget the many patients unable to work due to burn injuries—this new study in EBJ sheds light on this pressing issue. Burn injuries don’t just leave physical scars—they can also lead to significant economic and workforce challenges. This study explores the impact of burn injuries on lost workdays (LWDs), short-term disability (STD), and long-term disability (LTD) in a US working population.  Key Findings:   ✅ STD utilization nearly tripled post-injury (8.1% to 20.3%).   ✅ Average days of STD increased from 3.70 to 9.34 days. ✅ LTD utilization, though low, showed an increase post-injury (0.0% to 1.0%).  🔎 Why it matters:   Quantifying the economic impact of burn injuries is crucial for improving recovery programs, designing targeted interventions, and reducing the long-term societal costs associated with burns.  🔗 Read the full article here: https://lnkd.in/gpkrDYSa  #BurnCare #DisabilityResearch #WorkforceHealth #EBJResearch

  • 📢  A new research Article by Dr. Agata Skunca's team: "Predicting Mortality in Severe Burns: A Comparison of Four Mortality Prediction Scores and the Role of Organizational Changes in the Croatian Burn Center." This retrospective study evaluates the predictive accuracy of four widely used burn prognostic scores—ABSI, Ryan, BOBI, and rBaux—in patients with ≥20% TBSA burns, based on nine years of data. Key findings include:  ✅ Moderate predictive accuracy for all four scores (AUROC ranging from 0.76 to 0.79).   ✅ Organizational changes in the burn center reduced mechanical ventilation time and ICU length of stay, highlighting the importance of continuity of care.  With an overall mortality rate of 48.99%, this research underscores the critical need for refined prediction tools and optimized care protocols in burn centers.  🔗 Read the full article here: https://lnkd.in/gENUC7nd #BurnCare #PrognosticTools #BurnOutcomes #IntensiveCare #EBJ
