Every time we explore nature, do we leave more than just footprints? The mountain landscapes we visit are some of the world’s most fragile ecosystems, home to rare plant and animal life, but increased visitor numbers can lead to erosion and damage. EOCA and its members fund footpath maintenance programmes keeping these special places just that: special. Have a look at this great article about one of EOCA’s funded projects ‘It’s up to us – An Teallach!’. Written and visited by Pertex, a longtime supporter of EOCA, the article chats to the Outdoor Access Trust for Scotland, working to preserve our mountain habitats for future generations. https://lnkd.in/eq3zTjpT Credits: written by Tom Hill; photography by Brodie Hood; produced by Coldhouse Collective Pertex Brodie Hood Coldhouse Collective

The Botanical Garden of Medellin, the organisation in charge of the project, are committed to the research and conservation of Colombian flora, in particular within the Tropical Andes ecosystems. A really interesting project that will work with local landowners, rescue plants and collect seeds from endangered species, hold sustainability workshops and upgrade key hiking trails within the area. Take a look now to see just how much valuable conservation work is planned. https://lnkd.in/gUri7jq3 Fundación Jardín Botánico de Medellín

New EOCA funded projects are now on our website. This is just one of them, ‘Habitat Restoration of the Kumana Villu’. A 200-hectare brackish mangrove swamp in the Kumana National Park, home to over 50% of bird species in Sri Lanka, is under threat from a number of invasive species. The project, managed by the Federation of Environmental Organizations, will work to restore this vital ecosystem. Find out how this will be achieved here https://lnkd.in/gbSttn6R

The northwestern Italian Alps are stunningly beautiful and, unsurprisingly, very popular with visitors wanting to enjoy numerous outdoor activities and experience the mountains. This popularity can have a detrimental impact on the mountain environment and its biodiversity, something which the dedicated team at CleanAlp are working hard to protect. With continued funding over a number of years from #EOCA Summit Member, The North Face, the CleanAlp Protect and Clean our Mountains project has already organised numerous guided hikes for volunteers. The educational hikes, help educate people on the natural heritage of the area and its need for protection, as well as helping to clear rubbish and waste from the trails. Take a look https://bit.ly/CleanAlp A big thank you to The North Face for its ongoing support of the CleanAlp project, and to the commitment of the team itself for all the hard work and protection of the mountains. Without our Members, Summit Members and Sustaining Members, we wouldn’t be able to fund much-needed and vital conservation projects around the world. It’s thanks to Summit Member POMOCA, that the Conservation of Ringed Seals in Lake Saimaa project has received funding since 2016. As an #EOCA Summit Member, POMOCA entirely funds and supports this project, enabling the continued work of The Finnish Association for Nature Conservation (FANC) to ensure the survival, protection and education of the Saimaa ringed seal into the future. More details about this brilliant project are on our website https://bit.ly/SaimaaSeals 📷 Photo credits: Hanne Kosonen / The Finnish Association for Nature Conservation POMOCA #environmentalprotection #wildlifeconservation #naturebasedsolutions
