This week's #ESOBlog highlights the ESJ Featured Article of the Month – November 2024: 📄 "Initial blood pressure and adverse cardiac events following acute ischaemic stroke: an individual patient data pooled analysis from the VISTA database" by Ishiguchi et al. The article explores Stroke Heart Syndrome (SHS)—a critical focus in this month’s European Stroke Journal (ESJ). SHS includes cardiac complications like acute coronary syndrome (ACS), myocardial infarction (MI), heart failure, arrhythmias, and more, occurring within 30 days of an acute ischaemic stroke. 👉 Read the full blog: https://ow.ly/3Zm250UfF5v #StrokeResearch #stroke #ESJ

ESO's #PaperOfTheMonth for November is out: "Tenecteplase versus alteplase for acute stroke within 4·5 h of onset (ATTEST-2): a randomised, parallel group, open-label trial". 📑Read the paper: https://ow.ly/vrAw50QYxyV 📚 "Tenecteplase 0·25 mg/kg was non-inferior to 0·9 mg/kg alteplase within 4·5 h of symptom onset in acute ischaemic stroke. Easier administration of tenecteplase, especially in the context of interhospital transfers, indicates that tenecteplase should be preferred to alteplase for thrombolysis in acute ischaemic stroke. The ATTEST-2 population was large and representative of thrombolysis-eligible patients in the UK and, together with findings from other trials, provides robust evidence supporting the introduction of tenecteplase in preference to alteplase." Congratulations to Muir KW, Ford GA, Ford I, Wardlaw JM, McConnachie A, Greenlaw N, Mair G, Sprigg N, Price CI, MacLeod MJ, Dima S. and their team. #stroke #strokeresearch #strokecare #neurology The Lancet

The new TF4UKR #D2D report is out today! Dr. Olha Yasnii completed her TF4UKR Department-to-Department Visiting Programme at the Vall d'Hebron University Hospital, Stroke unit under the mentorship of PhD https://ow.ly/FVSq50UbBfj. Marc Ribo. One of the most striking aspects of her internship was observing the meticulous patient selection process for thrombolytic therapy and mechanical thrombectomy. The efficiency and coordination among the staff were remarkable. From the moment a stroke patient is identified by the emergency medical services, there is seamless communication and collaboration. The phrase "time is brain" is deeply ingrained in the hospital's culture, emphasising the critical importance of rapid intervention in stroke care.
