Earlier this week, farmbetter's Luise Indimuli and Abigael Kosgey participated in a workshop on Advancing Public Private Engagement in Weather Climate Services (WCS) to create resilient small-holder farmers. Under the tutelage of Mercy Corps AgriFin, the workshop brought together public and private sector stakeholders to advance climate resilience for Kenya’s agricultural sector. The agenda included insightful presentations by the Kenya Meteorological Department (KMD), Accelerating Impacts of CGIAR Climate Research for Africa (AICCRA), Sprout Open Content, International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI) and Kenya Agricultural and Livestock Research Organization (KALRO) alongside interactive demonstrations and roadmap co-creation sessions. In addition to insightful case studies on hyperlocal 7-day forecasts and seasonal predictions, the session culminated in actionable outcomes, such as a proposed #PPP framework and a collaborative roadmap to scale #weather services for smallholder farmers. farmbetter is honoured to participate in this pilot as a ‘disseminator’ of weather services, coupling this with actionable advisory services to continue empowering smallholder farmers to mitigate the impact of climate change. Remote first, but never distant 🌍 At farmbetter, our team is globally dispersed and remote-first. However, in October we gathered for our annual sprint—a time to reflect, plan, connect, and have some fun! This time we came together in Nairobi, and it was not only incredibly productive but also an absolute joy to bond beyond our screens. 3 takeaways from our Co-CEO, Benjamin Gräub: 1️⃣ Family & community matter: We included families in our Sunday at #KarenAdventureFarm (thank you, Marianne Mwaniki!). Between outdoor games, a regenerative farm tour, and time with the animals, it was unforgettable. 2️⃣ Impact beyond screens: Remote work is powerful, but the insights and connections gained over a casual dinner or a chat can simply not be matched by virtual calls. 3️⃣ Learning from the field: Visiting partners like Mumberes Dairy Cooperative (as part of our partnership with Agriterra) was eye-opening. Their lead farmer adviser takes 50+ calls daily from farmers—a testament to the pain points our platform helps address through digitization and transparency. A heartfelt thanks to the whole farmbetter team for making this sprint amazing, especially Luise Indimuli, who made it all possible. A few weeks ago, we brought together key allies and thought leaders from the agriculture and ag-tech sectors in Nairobi. This wasn’t your typical pitch event – it was a space for sharing insights, challenges, and successes. At farmbetter, we believe the solutions to the challenges facing farmers today won’t come from a single player, but through collaboration across the ecosystem. It’s about building platforms that create real value for farmers, agents, organizations, and consumers alike. Held at Crafty Chameleon, the evening was electric, with over 30 passionate individuals gathered to focus on empowering farmers to thrive and become more profitable in their work. It was a reminder that when we work together, we unlock greater potential for change. Check out some highlights below, and we look forward to continuing the conversation and staying connected as we take steps forward together! #AgTech #Innovation #Collaboration #farmbetter #EmpowerFarmers Revolutionary Coffee Sieka Gatabaki Moses K. Last week was crunch time for our team working on the #AgriPath project, where we work in a 5-year, 5 country project to identify the most effective pathways for digital advisory to farmers, esp. for women & youth. The annual project #workshop took place in Varanasi, India and here are three key take-aways: 1. Even 4 years in - AgriPath and the action research it enables is still extremely relevant and has an incredible impact to scale digital advisory in agriculture as well as sustainable land management. Partners across the project have done an incredible amount of work and it's now time to bring it all together! 2. farmbetter is creating value for agents and farmers in Uttar Pradesh in India, be it by showcasing innovations like direct seeding in Rice or saving a farmer 38 USD/season by producing their own manure instead of buying expensive fertilizers 3. Many things can be done online, but connecting, building trust and truly aligning on where we are going often needs in-person meetings, especially for projects as complex (5 countries on two continents) as AgriPath. Thanks a lot to Minnie Wanjiku Brian Baliach and Benjamin Gräub (who even got to sing twice during the workshop ;)) for so expertly presenting our work and engaging all our partners and to SYLVIA NG'ENO for her help in Preparing A big thank you to Dr. H.S. Roopa Amber Rai Shatarupa Kashyap Bharati Joshi and the whole team at Grameen Foundation India for your hospitality and the excellent workshop. Big thank you to Brigitta Nyawira, PMP® for conceptualising and leading us through the week! And another thank you for the active & fruitul contributions from the donors Martina Schmidt from Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation and Jonas Bartholomay from Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH funded by Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) We have a lot of work ahead of us, but the potential impact far outweighs the costs of pushing the project forward!
