📸 Event Highlights: Last week we looked at a pressing topic in our Swiss context - the future of winter sports events, with Infront Sports & Media AG and hosted at Flokk Switzerland. With average temperatures here already 2.4 degrees warmer, this event was a timely a assessment of this mainstay of Swiss winters - and how winter sports themselves can become more sustainable 🎿🌎 ► Ioannis Konstantopoulos (University of Lausanne) opened the event by emphasizing the urgent need for sustainability in winter sports, framing the discussions around the critical role of carbon reduction, sustainable event management, and collaboration across industries to address the climate crisis. ► Jörg Polzer (Infront Sports & Media AG) discussed Infront’s ESG initiatives, focusing on sustainable event management, long-term partnerships promoting climate awareness, and integrating sustainability into major sports events worldwide. ► Riikka Rakic (International Biathlon Union) highlighted IBU’s commitment to sustainability, with a focus on reducing travel emissions through public transport partnerships and implementing event-specific sustainability requirements to achieve their 2030 goals. ► Marlen Marconi (Swiss-Ski) outlined Swiss-Ski’s sustainability strategy, which aims to minimize environmental impacts through waste reduction, energy efficiency, and inclusive community engagement in competitive and mass sports events. ► Vanessa Müller (ClimatePartner) emphasized the critical role of carbon accounting in winter sports, highlighting the impact of shrinking winters and the need for unified standards to measure and reduce event emissions.
