At the end of November, FSD’s Director, Hansjörg Eberle, attended the 5th Review Conference of the Anti-Personnel Mine Ban Convention in Siem Reap, Cambodia. The conference brought together state parties, humanitarian demining organisations and key stakeholders to discuss challenges, share solutions, and strengthen collective efforts toward a world free of landmines. A major milestone of the event was the adoption of the new Siem Reap-Angkor Action Plan, which will guide global mine action efforts for the next five years. A heartfelt thank you to Cambodia for hosting this meaningful event! #SiemReapSummit #MineFreeWorld #HumanitarianDemining #Cambodia

ℹ️ Protecting the Environment During Mine Action 🌱 Congratulations to Mine Action Review on the release of their insightful report ‘Environmental Protection in Mine Action’. Its case studies and practical contributions offer valuable guidance on integrating environmental and climate considerations into every stage of mine action. We are proud to have contributed to this report through FSD’s collaboration with FAO and World Food Programme in Ukraine. Together, we focused on a study by FAO that examined the impact of demining machines on soil structure, advancing the understanding of how mine action can align with sustainable environmental practices. ➡️ The full report is available here: https://lnkd.in/e8YtWQCU #EnvironmentalProtection #MineAction #Sustainability #LandmineFree #HumanitarianDemining

🥁 Bringing Music to Bouar's Youngest Learners In the Central African Republic, in a context marked by conflict and instability, children often bear many responsibilities, and leisure activities are scarce. To provide these children with opportunities to pursue their passions, FSD organises after-school activities in Bouar, where children can connect, learn to play musical instruments, express themselves creatively, and - most importantly - enjoy moments of laughter and fun. 🎥 Watch the full video to see how these activities make a difference: https://lnkd.in/d3ncKCEW #Children #CentralAfricanRepublic #MusicForChange #HumanitarianSupport #Joy

In 2023, more than 5,750 people were injured or killed in incidents involving mines and explosive remnants of war. For survivors, these explosions often leave lasting physical and psychological scars, profoundly altering their lives. On this #InternationalDayofPersonsWithDisabilities, FSD reinforces its commitment to support mine and conflict victims in our victim assistance activities in Colombia and Afghanistan, and across the world, providing survivors with the support to return to income-generating activities that are compatible with their disability. #InternationalDayOfPersonsWithDisabilities #VictimAssistance #Inclusion #HumanitarianDemining #ActionAgainstMines

📢 Landmine Monitor 2024 is out! The latest edition of the Landmine Monitor by the International Campaign to Ban Landmines - Cluster Munition Coalition (ICBL-CMC) highlights the alarming reality of landmine use, contamination and their devastating impact on communities around the world. In 2023, the report recorded the highest number of casualties from anti-personnel mines since 2011. Tragically, 84% of those affected were civilians, and over a third of them were children. Yet, there is hope. Last year, more than 281.50 km² of land was cleared across the world, and over 160'566 anti-personnel mines were destroyed. These achievements represent the collective determination to create a safer, mine-free world. FSD is proud to play its part in this vital effort and remains deeply committed to continuing its mission of clearing land and protecting lives. ➡️ Read the full report here: https://lnkd.in/eMRBVQ_R #LandmineMonitor2024 #MineBanTreaty #MineFreeWorld #MineAction #LandmineFree #SafetyForAll

Last week, Steve Munro, FSD's Operations Manager in Iraq, participated in the Lessons Learned Workshop on Innovation for Land Release in Erbil. The workshop brought together national demining authorities from Iraq and the Kurdistan Region, alongside several humanitarian mine action NGOs, to exchange experiences and insights. A key takeaway from the event was learning how to design effective micro-projects with limited budgets to achieve impactful results. A sincere thank you to Handicap International - Humanity & Inclusion for organising and facilitating this engaging event! #HumanitarianDemining #Iraq #MineAction #LessonsLearned
