A world in which communities thrive, free from risks from explosive ordnance.
Info
The Geneva International Centre for Humanitarian Demining (GICHD) is an international expert organisation based in Switzerland. It has 65 members of staff representing 19 nationalities. The GICHD works to reduce the impact of mines, cluster munitions and other explosive remnants of war, in close partnership with mine action organisations and other human security actors. To do so, the GICHD supports national authorities, international and regional organisations and NGOs in their efforts to improve the relevance, performance and sustainability of mine action. Our advisors visit approximately 50 countries each year and offer remote support, enabling them to tackle explosive hazard contamination safely, effectively and efficiently. By bringing together experts and practitioners, gathering and sharing knowledge, the GICHD acts as a central reference point in mine action. We promote dialogue between mine-affected countries in local languages, fostering regional cooperation. This work is not just an end in itself but also contributes to the broader objective of human security – freedom from fear and freedom from want. This effort is facilitated by the GICHD's location within the Maison de la Paix in Geneva The Centre's work is made possible by core contributions, project funding and in-kind support from 30 governments and organisations.

Behaviour doesn’t change overnight: Social and Behaviour Change Communications (SBCC) is the strategic use of communication to promote changes in knowledge, attitudes, norms, beliefs and behaviours. Using SBCC approaches complement Explosive Ordnance Risk Education (EORE) as they promote sustainable, safe behaviour and protect lives from the threat of landmines and other explosive ordnance. Are you an EORE practitioner? Take your EORE impact to the next level and download our Social and Behaviour Change Communications for EORE toolkit and discover strategies to change behaviours and save lives. The toolkit includes: 💡 6 training modules with PowerPoint presentations and associated training documents (handouts, group work exercises, guidance notes) 💡 Facilitator’s guide 💡 Workbook for participants Explore it here: https://lnkd.in/eHqqcdk2 We thank Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Sida, and Auswärtiges Amt (Federal Foreign Office) Germany for supporting for this activity.

What an incredible weekend for our GICHD team at the Course de l'Escalade in the heart of Geneva! Braving wet and cold conditions, 10 of our staff joined over 57,000 participants in Switzerland's largest running event. With the message “Together Against Mines” displayed, they raced through the hilly, cobbled streets of the Old Town, cheered on by an energized crowd.

#BosniaAndHerzegovina: After the fourth Technical Working Group Meeting this year on Ammunition Inventory Management Software (AIMS), we’re marking the positive progress made with the Ministry of Defence and Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina. During high-level discussions this week, the Surveillance Information Management System wireframes were presented. Validation of these wireframes ensures the software blueprint meets technical and operational needs while setting the stage for future rollout. Big milestones ahead in 2025! We thank the Federal Department of Defence, Civil Protection and Sport DDPS for their contribution towards this activity.
