🎌 Big changes are coming to Japan's Tax Free Shopping – are you prepared? This month Global Blue had the honor of hosting an exclusive event at the historic Meiji Kinenkan in Tokyo 🏯. It was an incredible gathering with industry leaders, including our CEO Jacques Stern, SVP of Marketing, Communications & Customer Value Creation Virginie Alem, the Ministry of Finance - Japan, and Japan National Tourism Organization. The spotlight? The upcoming evolution of Japan’s Tax Free Shopping scheme. In 2026, the model will transition from the current VAT-off model (where tax refunds are completed in store, with no customs validation) to VAT-on model (where refunds are processed after Customs validation 🛍️, marking a significant shift in the shopper experience. This change will bring Japan in line with similar systems in European countries. Backed by our presence in Europe, we are ready to support retailers in preparing for this major change.
