📢 Investing Today to Protect Tomorrow GCERF is pleased to kick off its replenishment campaign! 🕊 We are aiming to raise an investment of USD 80 million to further scale-up the impact of prevention efforts and establish strong foundations for lasting peace. 🔴 Despite trillions of dollars spent on armed responses to terrorism over the past 20 years, the world is NOT a safer place. Social tensions, regional power struggles and the economic hardship have ignited an increasing number of armed conflicts, which, in turn, threaten to radicalise population groups, and spread violent ideologies and violence into communities that are not yet affected. GCERF is the 🌍’s only dedicated tool to prevent violent extremism (#PVE) and has developed a unique and targeted model for multilateral investment in effective prevention efforts. It does so by funding civil society organisations to implement grassroots initiatives aimed at addressing the causes of violent extremism in countries where it is a constant threat or could take root and spread. Let's come together to create a world where communities stand tall against extremist ideologies. Discover how you can join us ➡️ bit.ly/3Z7DWqZ

👋 Meet Nurjamal, a Champion of Child Protection and Social Reintegration in Kyrgyzstan “Every child is unique, with their own dreams and needs. Reintegrating them into society is a social priority and a preventive measure against violent extremism. We must work with the community to create sustainable solutions to support these children and break the cycle of stigma.” says Nurjamal when asked about her vision and the impact of her work. 🤝 With more than 28 years of experience, from a pedagogue to the founder of The Childhood Institute, Nurjamal has established a partnership with SOS Children’s Villages in 2023 to address the needs of repatriated children from Iraq and Syria and started a collaboration with GCERF in 2024 through a consortium led by SOS Children’s Villages. Nurjamal views GCERF as a unique strategic partner with a comprehensive approach to preventing violent extremism that complements her work on the ground. Her work is not just a vocation, “it is a life mission shared with loved ones and collaborators”. Her family is deeply rooted in the social field and supports her projects. “Family meals resemble strategic discussions because I always bring to the table the challenges faced by children and vulnerable communities.” she adds, laughing. 🙌 Hats off to Nurjamal, a Kyrgyz citizen deeply committed to her role as a mentor, protector, and guide for future generations. She is a living testament that every individual, regardless of their background or journey, has the power to make a meaningful change for a fairer and more inclusive future. 🔄 Award Update For the new edition of the Carol Bellamy Leadership Award, GCERF organised two online information sessions this week with the torchbearers, local partners who have demonstrated a strong commitment to the prevention of violent extremism (#PVE) and who are led by women - wherever possible. The torchbearer gains concrete evidence of their support of/for women’s empowerment. It also strengthens the ability to build new, important relationships with local actors. This time, the GCERF team has identified one torchbearer per partner country, in order to localise and amplify the impact of the award 🌍 🌱 The Carol Bellamy Leadership Award is designed to directly support small local and grassroots organisations led by women, or those working towards women's empowerment, in preventing and countering violent extremism in GCERF partner countries, each year.
