Faith and sustainability at COP29: A call to action 🌱 At COP29 in Baku, Azerbaijan, Globethics contributed to an impactful Faith Pavilion session, "Encouraging Sustainable Lifestyles through Faith." Organised by the Faith for Earth Coalition and GO4SDGs, the session explored ethical principles for sustainability, featuring insights from diverse faith and environmental leaders, including Globethics Vice President, Dicky Sofjan. Key discussions highlighted: 🌿 Nature’s resilience during reduced human activity, as seen during COVID-19. 🌎 The ongoing gap between environmental intentions and actions. 🤝 Faith leaders' vital role in driving sustainable behavior within communities. The session also echoed the interfaith appeal, “Protecting Our Common Climate System: Earth Governance for a Sustainable Future,” signed by over 400 faith-based organizations. It calls for: ✅ A Fossil Fuel Treaty. ✅ Recognition of ecocide as an international crime. ✅ Creation of a UN Earth System Council. Dicky Sofjan emphasised humanity’s duty as Earth’s stewards, warning of the dangers of inaction and urging collaborative efforts to address the ecological crisis. This interfaith initiative challenges global leaders to prioritise environmental stewardship over short-term gains, uniting around shared principles of justice, equity, and guardianship. https://lnkd.in/gCYKWckz #Sustainability #FaithForEarth #COP29 #ClimateAction #InterfaithCollaboration

💬Collective memory and ensuring that places of remembering the past and imagining the future across the generations are kept alive Two key aspects of the first Globethics Doctoral School were its opportunity to bridge research and real-life experiences, and the immersion in an intercultural context. 🇷🇼For Édouard Ntakirutimana from Rwanda, who conducts research on peace education curricula in primary schools in his country, his first visit to an Asian country was an eye-opening and transformative experience. 💬“The deep reflection with my peers and the learning on culture and environment was impressive. Indonesians’ efforts in preserving their diverse cultural traditions left an indelible mark on me.” For Édouard, this constitutes one important element of building peace: ensuring that places of remembering the past and imagining the future across the generations are kept alive. Coming from a context in which the collective memory has been a painful task in the sight of unimaginable atrocities between ethnic groups, this has been a significant insight.
